60something million Americans say "none"

and have lost, or no longer affiliate, with a religion.  I would add the significant scientific advancements to the list of reasons this trend has been growing at a faster rate recently.  Even as an atheist, I find this kind of an anti-climatic observation (since infidels don't get together every weekend to talk about our lack of faith, or ( Read more... )

Here here, on that last part.
I will say though, that it's a shame that "less religious" in America means "less Christian". There are a bunch of other options that people in other parts of the world gravitate toward, one shouldn't have to drop out altogether just because one finds the American standard not working.

I agree that there are lots of religious options but the US is a "Christian" nation. Its interesting that the 2nd largest religion in the US is no religion.

For me personally, after taking a world religion course and getting a science degree, etc, it appears I came to the same conclusion as somewhere between 1/5 and 1/4 of the nation...no deity / deities for me, please.

thanks to Obama for easing the restrictions on my friends who went to medical school to become spine and neuroscience specialists and research how to get our paralyzed and nervous-system-damaged friends/family members out of their wheelchairs faster

I've heard this same rational used so many times, it's beginning to sound like Kay Bailey Hutchinson saying "...for the children". I'm not saying that I disagree with the policy change, but the appeal to the emotions strike me as a weak point.
