Don't push too much past 30. Starting at 30, the incidents of birth defects and fertility problems begins to rise exponentially. Kids will ALWAYS interrupt your life. If people with good lives and nice jobs always waited until they were miserable failures to have kids, all parents would suck.
I was scared about these things too. After five years of failed attempts, fertility treatments, and adoption bureaucracy, I say go for it as soon as you feel ready. Because you're never ever ever going to BE ready. You may not have another time in your life when you can, let alone want to.
it's true that you are never "ready" for a baby...and even when you are, something will come along to screw up those plans (trust me *wry smile*) i can understand wanting to have a house, but if you are thinking that within the next 5 years you will most likely be somewhere that you want to own a house, i don't see why you couldn't plan for the first few years of the baby's life to be in an apartment. from everything i've heard about the housing market, now is not the time to be buying a house that you won't be spending a large amount of time in. 30 does tend to be the turning point to putting pregnancies at a slightly higher risk, and the risk grows each year. i hope you and chris are able to figure out how you want to do things. *hugs*
