Interesting isn't it. I see the Labour government and the shockingly terrible things that have happened to the education system under it and I vow to never vote Labour. You remember the 80s well and vow never to vote Tory.
I do also remember the 90s conservative government, but I guess being a middle-class Surrey lass, I never felt the harshness. I was also rather young and I didn't understand.
I like the lib dems really. It's a shame there's no chance of them getting a majority, it might be nice to have a genuinely new lot in power!
have you seen www.voteforpolicies.org.uk ? It's quite a good laugh. You get shown policies from different parties (without the party names) and you choose your favourites, then it tells you who you liked. Leads to some interesting results.
A lot of our current woes are based around what happened back in the 80s though. The education system was already being underfunded, I remember having a lot of books that were over 10 years old then and computers weren't widely available to most classes until the mid 90s.
But yeah, right now I feel like I'm going for the lesser of two evils here. I'm concerned not only about the national citizenship service but also gay rights, immigration (which is already heavy handed), censorship laws, the future of the BBC and Education. All of these things I see the Tories slowly destroying.
I would love either the lib dems or the green party to get in but we're not there yet. Right now, we have to concentrate on keeping out the tories and preventing the BNP from climbing higher.
The Lib Dems have another few years to go before they can win, which is a shame. I will be voting Labour this year, I live in a marginal seat with a fantastic Labour MP, and my vote is for him, not his party.
Also, I can't think of anything that would make me vote Tory. Raised to hate the party, never seen a reason to feel differently.
