to pay all of your attention to one thing means neglecting or being distracted from another.
the other sentence is just another observation i've noticed. when people complain about something, half the time it bothers them so much because subconsciously they're doing the exact same thing. i've been paying attention to people for a long time and just watching more and more lately. even the most unique of people seem to be somewhat oblivious to these mannerisms.
