Can anyone say, anti-climatic? That was my opinion of the opening to Season 6 of Supernatural.
Sera Gamble must be feeling pretty nervous at the backlash of fans' reviews of the much anticipated season opener. With Eric Kripke no longer at the creative wheel of the series, Sera has a lot to live up to after five seasons of the successful and popular show.
By now Jensen Ackles must be getting a migraine from the amount of emoting he is required to produce for Dean Winchester. Did anyone else just want to slap Dean and tell him to grow a pair?? As a audience member, I am certainly growing tired of Dean's whining. Not to say that Jensen doesn't do a great job; his characterisation of Dean is superb and has been an integral part of the show's success thus far. However, I am tiring of the poor-Dean, woe is me act that seems to have plagued the show since mid-Season 4.
Jared Padalecki's portrayal of the returned Sam Winchester was...lack-lustre, to say the least. It seemed overly apparent that Jared does not want to be a part of the sixth season of Supernatural, and his first few scene's as Sam demonstrated this. I have to say, the Winchester brothers reunion was very disappointing. It seems to be when the writers run out of ideas, they fall back on the tried & true formula of D or S in trouble, separate D & S, much angst is played out, D & S reunite (briefly), then D or S make a self-sacrifice for the greater good.
I'm not sure what to make of the extended family. The introduction of the Campbells - third, fourth, fifth cousins removed etc. seems a bit far fetched. Everyone seems so accepting of good 'ol Gramps coming back from the grave.
I'm hoping tonight's episode brings us back to more of the Winchester brothers camaraderie that the fans have become accustomed to. Although their relationship is still far from being anything like it once was, I for one am looking forward to seeing more of the banter between the brothers that has kept us so entertained for the last five years.
