I'm listening to 99x on the way to work this morning and they are introducing new songs that they want listeners to vote on and see which one will be played on 99x. Well they played a new Nada Surf song that was really gay. Then the guy was like ok here is a remix from a band called M.I.A. it's a girl from london blah

I haven't heard that new Yin Yang ywins but i will listen for it. They may not have any trouble with sample clearance on that Din Da Da track from YYT, but the folks who represent George Kranz who wrote the original might want a lil loot (relased 1983 on 4th and Broadway label catalog number R120). Lil Steven here in town made a pretty decent reworking of that toon as well.

I think that all these rock critics and DJs jocking UK hip-hop smarts of slightly racist tendencies. It's not something conscious per se, but the idea that hip-hop that isn't made by black Americans somehow holds more legitimacy bothers me.

M.I.A. is playing Hollywood tonight. I want to go up to LA, but I have so much work to do that I don't think I can make it.
