I offered an invitation to maximus_tm to come to sea with me. stephen_maturin agreed with me that a change of environment might do much to improve his mood, which has been so very low, and I have often found that when a man is at sea, he forgets all his troubles on land.

I suppose one might say that there have been some completely unexpected consequences of this

But it can be quite dangerous at sea. You are safer on land!

Perhaps you could have your young man fly you there! How does that contraption work? Does he know the community of wizards I keep encountering here?

He is more than likely in that community of wizards:). I should like to learn to fly...perhaps I would lose my balance, fall off and die...I don't think that would make many people happy.

Personally, I should like to see these three men at sea ... oh to be a fly on the wall in the captain's cabin.

*blushes* I do try to make certain that there are never flies on the wall of the cabin!

I'm sure your cabin is always ship-shape and bristol fashion. Thus there could be no flies ... besides that, I truly wouldn't dream of invading the captains privacy thus. Well, dream, perhaps.
