Resources for Sims 3

Since slowly but surely people are starting to peek into Sims 3,  I thought I'd put this out here for you folks. A list of some of my mods, links and miscellanea that I use.

Links - the sites that I frequent for custom content of all sorts.

Thanks for this! :D

You know, I read different things about how to install CC in S3 from various sources, some of which were outdated, and some just bizarre, and it turned out to be really simple - even simpler than downloading this framework business. I just made my own folders and put the resource.cfg in. I think it was eHow that explained it clearly.

The jmtmom post with her color sliders confuses me with all the crossed-out stuff and warnings and crap, so I haven't tried it, though the Teal color does look like what I want. I'll probably grab it anyway and just ignore the verbal chaos in her post - if it turns out to not work I can just take it out.

I'm glad you like the Tamo eyes! It was remisims that turned me onto them, via her Tumblr. I'll probably grab those Phobia contacts you mentioned. And maybe the freckles too.

Well the framework IS the 'folders and resource.cfg' you just unzip it into the same spot. All the work is already done. But yeah, it's really all about that resource.cfg file. The framework just gave me folders from scratch.
Have you got a link to the eHow? I'd like to toss it on my list because I know that's the thing that intimidates people the most with mods for Sims 3.

And yeah, the stuff on GoS could stand to be cleaned up a lot. There's a lot of visual garbage in the posts. They don't seem to maintain the Sims 3 stuff as well as 2. :( Which makes me grateful for My Sims 3 Blog and others. They post the picture, tell you what it is, tell you where it's at... and I ignore the menutia on the site when I get there! :)

I know, it just seems easier to me somehow to create a few folders than to download something that creates said folders, fish it out of my downloads folder, unpack it, and run it... plus the time spent trying to figure out "what does this framework business do?" (especially since it wasn't crystal clear what was obsolete and what wasn't... I haven't had the benefit of a few years of playing the game ( ... )

Yeah, I think the link you gave me is more informative, actually! It tells you the little details of WHY you're putting these things here versus a nebulous 'unzip this folder over here'. Which is fine by me, but I admit, that oblivious feeling I could be unloading God knows what into my game! HAH!

But that one explains all the different packages which is very important.

Oh hey, do you know, if you d/l a sim, do they come willy-nilly with all their CC, or can you exclude the CC if you want? Like if it's a skintone you're not impressed by, or whatever?

it depends how it's packaged. If it's a .sim file, it won't have the custom content. If it's a Sims3Pack it will.

Ah! Thank you. That makes it easy!

Wow, what a fabulous list. I was over on pixel's LJ page, reading your comments and adding my own, liked what I read of yours and was curious about your TS3 sims so found my way over here to you. (Sorry, tendency to ramble uncontrollably.)

Also empathised with what you wrote about Awesomemod, I never used it for I felt that they weren't friendly people. Don't mind banter when it's more lighthearted and makes you laugh a little, but they can be cruel and rather childish about it over there on MATY, though I did love it when they shared TS2 CC finds that were laughable.

Anyway, will leave you in peace now. Going to lurk and look at your sims. Hope you don't mind.

It's nice to see others out there who enjoy Ts3 so definitely lurk and enjoy and I shall post more here. A lot of my Sims posts I sent primarily to my personal account because for ages I was sort of alone in the TS3 love so I just shared it with my one or two friends who enjoyed them.

I sincerely do love it even with the bugs and I even like Simport... when I can get it working, despite all the cries of hate.

I think I've sort of declared myself one of TS3's champions against the wave of hate it always gets! I always feel a little sad and lonely in the crowd of TS2 fans (I do like TS2, though)so having others lurk around is fun to share with!

Looking forward to seeing more. When I was rambling through, I discovered that you were the one who posted about Fiona - inspired by Shrek. I remembered that, she was so well done.

Aww thank you! Yeah I haven't been posting many of my Sims because I just figured there wasn't enough interest in Sims 3 to warrent it. I'm glad some folks are enjoying them, though! I also have a Sims tumblr that I post to.
