when you hear from someone that you haven't really talked to in a while but have pretty much kept up with their journal, is it lame and fake to ask them how they are or whats new? i mean i kind of know what you are doing but i'll pretend i'm not stalking you by saying "whats new ( Read more... )

Hmmm, I've wondered this myself. If they're a sporadic blogger you can still get away with asking them what's up... if they post just about every detail of their life, I'd say asking them about things in recent blog posts is better.

well, if this about me, since recent lj comments are the only communication we've had in over a year, then i would say its not creepy, since i dont do lj posts of my own EVER. im the creepy stalker who just never took you off my friends list.

and also, in my own history, i'm the one who reads their entire journal, sometimes 2 or 3 years worth before making any comments. and let me tell you, they get creeped out. so i would avoid that.

either totally fake it(1) or totally dont(2).
1. "hey, whats new?" because if you've been stalking said person and not had phone/face contact, then you want to know where this person holds you in regards to amount of information to release at first interaction.
2. "Yo, I know i've been AWOL/all non-contacty but i've been reading your blogs. How've you been?" Because that covers ALL your bases. It gives the person a chance to get even MORE specific (blech) or to know what you know and talk about the stuff said person hasn't been chatting about.

I should write a book.
