I MEAN.
d'Artagnan is going to judge Aramis???? REALLY!!!!????????
Word of warning; I am mainly focusing here on how the boys reacted to Aramis telling them of his affair with the queen. That was the one conversation I anticipated the most this season and let me just say, I had not anticipated some of their reactions, not at all. Mostly, d'Artagnan's; what. A. Prick. Back to the episode...
I swear, in that moment, in that room, surrounded by 'his friends', nay, he brothers, he was never more alone. Well, save for one man; Porthos. One after the other, they were dicks to him. Forgive the language. Even Athos. "You made this mess. You tell them." I was digging down into my pillows, clutching my heart. That was arrow number 1, then that ass, d'Artagnan shot arrow number 2. I nearly spat on my tv. But thankfully, I realized I cannot spit that far. Then Treville. I expected that one, actually and was a little surprised he was in the room and part of the conversation because there is no recovering from what they tell this man, the one man who might hold Aramis commission in the Musketeers after this is all done, in the palm of his hand. More on that later...
So to Treville; his reaction, man, I seriously thought he would put a bullet in Aramis head then and there. Or just pull his gun and want to and Athos stop him and say, "There are scarcely enough of us as it is. We cannot afford to be down another man, even if he is the cause of this mess." GRRRR I"M GETTING ANGRIER JUST WRITING IT!
The only saving grace was Porthos. I mean, at first it didn't look like it would be but when he grabbed Aramis by the lapels and shook him ... THEN HUGGED HIM. I nearly sobbed. I literally whimpered out loud. I was so grateful for our gentle giant. The others... well, they can pound salt!!!! Just.. ARRRGH!!! And that private conversation between Aramis and Porthos after .. that was just perfect. Porthos is so right about what Aramis must do and I imagine that judging by the stills for episode 10, Aramis is going to do it. He's going to deny his treason and purger himself; he'll deny his faith and feel he's burned his soul forever. DAMMIT! this show.. THAT GUY!!! UUUUUGH!!!
Then.. then when Rochefort confronted the queen as she returned with the Musketeers, and that weasle said, "Didn't he tell you, he's been sleeping with the douphan's governess this entire time." I nearly died. The queen looked so hurt. All the others were there, so they know that now too ... Only Porthos doesn't know that last bit. Holy cow. MAN! I was ... Aramis looked like he just wanted to shrivel up and die. But I do think that in the light of a new day, she won't fault him for trying to move on with his life. But I think hat in the light of a new day, Aramis will have sworn off women forever, assuming he lives beyond the 10th episode (I know, not gonna happen, but I do wonder how these events will change Aramis going into next season...)
And when the guards took him away, Aramis put up a little fuss but he gave in far quicker than I would have thought. I think he was just so low. He feels so guilty for what he's done, and yeah, he needs to but his brothers, his friends should rally around him, not kick him when he's down. I think that in the end, Marguerite will tell the truth. I think her own conscious will not let her keep this up. She is already about to crack under the weight of it all. She really is a good person. She just fell for a man on the rebound.
As for Aramis. My heart. It just bleeds for him. Did you see the previews for next week: THEY HAD HIM PUT IN SHACKLES!!!! SHACKLES!!!!! I worry... he's in the Bastille and shackled. How is it he's going to be of any help to anyone if he's out of commission coz he's locked away?!??!? HOW DOES HE GET INTO THE ACTION! I have NO desire to watch that shit head, d'Artagan and Athos fight. NONE! I want Aramis part of the fight!!!! Porthos, I love him. He can stay. LOL!
And Treville. Even if this all ends well at the end of next week's ep, they save the day, the king, the queen is restored and the Musketeers are heroes, they really overplayed Treville's anger and his role because he was just that angry. And this kind of anger, this kind of thing, for a musketeer whose sole job is to protect the king and queen, to do what Aramis has done, well, if the musketeer doesn't die for his treason, then at the end of it all, to protect the queen and the douphan, Treville will have no choice but to decomission Aramis, send him away, exile him from Paris, maybe even France. *lowerlipquiver* I just don't see how Aramis comes out of this with nothing short of that.
Unless. Unless he is integral in saving the day. That has to be it. He has to have some big moment where he saves them all, the queen and king, so he has to kill Rochefort but only after Rochefort's exposed as a spy for Spain. He surprises them all as he tries to make a run for it, maybe gets the queen as a shield and Aramis is able to sneak in and save her in front of the king so Treville will have no choice but to keep Aramis as a musketeer or risk exposing the queen and Aramis all over. Of course, Treville could always just tell Aramis it is in everyone's best interest for you to leave quietly (to Aramis) and then send him off. Ugh..
Well, that was a rousing episode. It was just.. wow. I need to calm down. I have more work to do on my fic-- yes! fic!! I'm actually just over 6,000 words in and still moving along-- but I'm just so pumped up after that. You know, however it ends, I imagine we'll see some marvelous Aramis angst after. I mean, really, he's gotten Adele killed (not really his fault) and I bet Marguerite will die and nearly the queen and his brothers, all because of his mistake. I think he's going to swear off woman and take up drinking heavily. He'll trade places with Athos on that score, he'll spend nights in the taverns all during hiatus, he'll spend time in the company of whores to spare good woman his advances, and I can see Porthos trying to pull him back from all this but unable to. Ugh... *sniff*
Now, as for Marguerite. I think I've come to understand what happened between she and Aramis. I think it's so much more than what we've seen and I think that needs to be part of that next conversation with Porthos, you know, the aftermath fic I was mentioning. He tells Porthos that he had tried to move on, to get on with his life knowing he could not be with Anne and his son in any real, meaningful way. He met Marguerite and thought he could fall in love again AND hear about the douphan while his life carried on. Later he realized it was wrong but he could not stop himself. Seeing the child that first time, his arms longed to hold what he could never have and he forgot common sense and reason and just kept going. And in the process, he hurt Anne worse, now that Rochefort exposed that relationship in such a public and humiliating way, and wronged a good woman as well. Then he says he's done with decent women. He deserves to be alone forever. Give his life to king and country and pay his penance until he draws his final breath.
God.. this show. Any comforting words you have to offer would be greatly appreciated. I'm a wreck. LOL
