I love the historical aspect of it and I really love how the characters actually have historically accurate beliefs and that the authors take that seriously.

I can forgive them for the really goofy romance stuff. I've only read the first two books so far and I am deeply amused by the fact that two male authors are that fascinated by pairing everyone off. I mean - even the broken down old grandmother gets married!

I'm guessing you haven't read Ring of Fire yet? It's also in the Free Library, and it's a compilation of short stories, some of which were written before 1633 and they give you background on a lot of the things that happen in 1633. After that I'd recommend reading the first Grantville Gazette, also available for free. The one real drawback to the number of people writing in the universe is that it is hard to figure out what order to read things in! :D

I have the first Grantville Gazette and a couple of the 1634s. I am saving them for airplane reading.

I'm not much of a spoilerphobe so I guess reading them a little out of order should be okay.
