Since Harper is very proud of, and proficient with, his dataport (and the mun is finally going to let him use it in camp) so here's a handy description and list of things he can do with it!
Cerebral-ports, more commonly called dataports or just 'ports are lovely little devices connected directly to a person's brain that allow for all sorts of interfacing with technology and computer systems. Very useful, that. Harper's can be seen in the icon
They come in different shapes and sizes with different inbuilt abilities but the extent of their abilities is also dependent on the bearer. (For example, Bobby has to devote his full attention to overriding the Maru's course but Harper can easily carry on a conversation while hot-wiring and selectively venting an asteroid habitat)
Harper can, specifically:
-access and read files on mini-disks (about the size of a fingernail) without any device.
-same goes for any electronic storage device he can rig his jack to connect to
-hot-wire (simple surface things), monitor, and activate/use programs pretty much as fast as he can think once he's jacked into a system while remaining conscious of his surroundings (amount of complexity determines amount of attention)
-use devices connected to his 'port (example being Satrina's tesseracting device)
-download files directly into his brain never trying that ever again
-send his consciousness directly into a system/network and:
- -view programming code
- -alter and interact with said code and files/programs directly (including AIs)
- -communicate with people outside cyberspace via linked communication devices. (in camp this would be mostly through text but also perhaps laptop video and audio)
Of course Camp won't let him change the Camp network in any lasting way (if at all) but it does open up some fun debacles in the making (Harper crashing the network if the next time LJ goes down, anyone?)
