I found the Academy Awards very uplifting and enjoyable last night.

Me too. I thought they did a kickass job reviving the show!

some of it waa ok, but i couldnt stand the way they did the best supporting / best actor stuff. i thought it was about recognizing the performance, not how perfectly wonderful and wonderfully perfect each nominee is.

and baz luhmann should never be allowed back. theres a special place in hell for the brane behind that medley.

Em and I really liked the way the supporting/leading actor stuff was done. We felt it personalized the experience more, added some humanity to it.

As for what it's about, this year's ceremony made an assumption you've seen the performances in the theatre. And why shouldn't it, these are the creme de la creme. The place for the performance is in the film after all. The place for the accolades is in the award ceremony. And having 5 previous winners commend the nominees face to face is major accolades to me, even if it is just for show (business).

One things for sure though - Baz Luhrman can suck it. That guy's a putz.

I really liked the one-to-one homage from previous winners to contenders too. I thought it was a great way to really bestow specific honor on those who didn't ultimately win. I have to think that those who didn't walk away with the oscar still felt pretty damn good.

I have to echo some of Jim's thoughts - I actually thought the show sucked. I couldn't stand listening to them blab on and on about how great each nominee is. Spare me.

But I am glad you enjoyed them. :-)
