A rhetorical question

Someone wanna tell me why gospel music steals all the most heart-wrenching chords
when it's people without God that need somewhere to turn?

..well that's an awfully big generalization that I couldn't disagree more with.

It's the way it resolves, actually...I mean, listen to that piece. Yes, it's jazz, but it's based in gospel music, the composition of it is.

From a purely rhetorical standpoint, that is a self defeating question. Either you are condescending to "people without God," or you have some issues to work out with yourself. I'm sorry if thats a tad vicious. I have a strong pet peeve against that kind of thing.

Also: you can always make your own music. See "fruity loops"

I myself am a person without god, and I'm saying music is an outlet for me, but gospel music, good as it sounds, has that whole "religion" aspect to it. And I am referring to the music, not the lyrics. Does that make more sense?

In a way it does. Though, if you are referring to the music independent of the lyrics, the spirit (no pun intended) in which both were created should be independent and separate from your interpretation of the work as a whole. As such, no "God" at all in the equation. I myself, have a strong antipathy for Christian rock as both the lyrics and music suck to an extreme degree ( ... )

In reading my post i sound like i contradict myself. The first paragraph is a statement. The second i meant as a disputation of arguments against it. God i wish i could turn my "English major" off sometimes....

Also, for the record, i am completely apathetic towards religion and spirituality in general. We are here because something happened. Who cares what. Live your life like you know you can.
