Summary: Kris tried to understand the incoherent words coming out of Adam’s mouth, but to no avail. So, he turned around to the bathroom, then back to Adam.
“The bathroom?” He asked confused.
Kris woke up with a start when he heard the loud scream coming from the bathroom. For a second, he thought he was having an awful nightmare. But when he rubbed his sleepy eyes after sitting abruptly in bed with all the silky sheets surrounding his lean body, he saw Adam literally jumping out of the bathroom.
“KRIS!” Adam yelled for his sleepy lover.
Without a thought, Kris jumped out of their warm bed and practically ran to Adam, almost falling face down on the carpet.
He immediately held Adam’s shoulders, concern showing in his tender brown eyes.
“What is it Adam? Ha?” He asked breathlessly, trying to catch Adam’s eyes, and roamed his sides with his hands to make sure he was okay. Adam was shaking and pointing out behind Kris.
Kris tried to understand the incoherent words coming out of Adam’s mouth, but to no avail. So, he turned around to the bathroom, then back to Adam.
“The bathroom?” He asked confused.
“Y-yes…it’s…God…Kris…” and then he was clutching Kris for dear life.
Kris couldn’t understand what those words meant to imply really but he squeezed Adam’s upper arms in reassurance, and then went inside their huge bathroom.
He looked around. Everything was the same. He wasn’t entirely sure what to look for but nothing was out of the ordinary. Then, as he stood there, it dawned on him.
He shook his head as he turned around to Adam who was standing as far away from the bathroom door as possible.
“Oh God Adam,” Kris sighed. “Don’t tell me you ran out of a conditioner or some of your fascinating hair products?”
Kris leisurely walked to the door but the look on Adam’s face-wide fearful eyes and tight-lipped mouth- stopped him in his tracks.
“NO!” Adam replied hotly.
Kris was taken aback.
“Then what is it?” he asked with worry.
He saw Adam’s horrified look as if Kris had insulted him by not learning what had frightened him.
Kris then spoke slowly, “oh…so it’s serious?”
Adam waved his hands around in helplessness, “YOU THINK??”
Few seconds later, Adam saw that Kris was gazing hotly at him, and realized that his towel fell on the floor when he was waving his arms around. Some other time, he would’ve appreciated the gaze and the intensity there, but right now, he had to get rid of...that thing!!
“Kris…KRIS?” He yelled.
Kris snapped out of his reverie and his eyes were back on Adam’s tired face, “what?”
Now Kris wasn’t the type to get easily distracted but Adam’s body was another story.
“Hurry and get rid of it!” Adam told him as he adjusted the towel securely around his lean waist and put his hands on his hips, waiting impatiently.
Kris was tired, desperate to go back to bed. Seeing that Adam was fine-physically-made him less panicky and was assured that it must be something not that serious.
However, looking back at his lover’s face, he really saw wariness and fright. What could possibly cause that to the ever-confident glam rocker Adam Lambert?
Wait, Kris thought. He looked around some more, and then returned to face Adam, trying not to smile.
“Are you trying to tell me that there is a bug in there and you’re scared shit because of it???”
Adam folded his hands on his now-dried chest and spoke hotly, “it’s a hideous creature that kills people for a living.”
Kris’s eyes were wide with amusement, and a snicker almost escaped his mouth. “Oh really?”
Adam gasped, “You think I’m lying?”
Kris put his hands up in surrender, “not the least…I’m just racking my brain for all the possibilities of the presence of a creature in the bathroom-”
Adam cut him off, “it’s in the bathtub Kris. Just go and look!”
Kris heaved a long sigh and Adam persisted again, “just look…and please make sure you kill it.”
When Kris looked at him bewildered, Adam confirmed, “oh yes! You have to kill it. You probably did a lot of killing of their kind back in Conway.”
Then he pushed Kris’s small frame towards the bathroom and waited few steps away from the door. Kris just let out a long breath and decided not to argue with Adam. He went to the already used bathtub and opened the transparent curtain. He looked and then finally saw it.
---
Adam was pacing and then peeking from afar.
“Did you get it? Did you see it? Please tell me you didn’t lose it because let me tell you Kris Allen …I am not using that bathroom again and we are, unfortunately, going to have to move out of our house…” he trailed off when Kris showed up carrying the hideous creature.
Adam put his hand to his mouth and backed away some more.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” Adam asked, almost whispering for fear that the creature would escape at the sound of his voice.
Kris smiled, cupped his hand and looked up after examining it.
“I’m saving him.”
Then he started poking it with his other finger after settling it on his right hand.
Adam gasped loudly, which made Kris laugh softly, “oh Adam…it’s only a spider.”
“Only… a… spider?!” Then he started backing all the way to the wall behind him trying not to stare at Kris’s hands occupied with the object of his fears.
Kris turned his stupid face back up and answered simply, “Yeah.”
At that moment, Adam started hyperventilating. Maybe it was partly his fault for not telling Kris that he had a bit-not much according to Adam-phobia of those small spiders. Ever since he was little, he feared them, especially after Neil started chasing him, dangling one from his bony fingers.
“Kris. I’m serious…get rid of it…KILL it!”
Kris was still fondling and playing with the small spider but when he looked at Adam, he stopped enjoying his time with the little thing. His concern was written all over his face for the second time that morning.
“You’re serious…”
Adam only nodded hurriedly and Kris walked towards their window and set the spider on the wall. He watched as it scurried down the brick wall and down to the bottom.
When he turned, he saw Adam still pressed to the wall clutching the curtains behind him. He was shaking and a sweat broke on his forehead.
Kris walked until he was up in front of him. Adam won’t look at him; he was staring ahead above Kris’s head.
“Hey…” Kris coaxed and was about to touch Adam’s arm, when the latter almost shouted.
“Wash your hands.”
Kris looked at him for few seconds, and then retreated to the bathroom. After washing his hands with soup, he walked back to his frightened lover.
This time, he touched Adam’s arm gently.
Adam’s eyes finally fell on Kris’s concerned ones.
Suddenly, he grabbed Kris’s upper arms. “Is it gone? Is it over?”
Kris was surprised at the intensity of Adam’s fear. He realized that he must have a strong fear of spiders. He cursed himself mentally for acting foolishly and playing with the spider, but at the same time, he felt hurt that he didn’t know this important detail about his lover.
He answered him softly, “Yes. I got rid of it. You’re safe now.”
Adam let out a long breath and loosened his death grip on Kris. He then swiped the sweat on his forehead and took deep breaths to calm himself.
“How come you never told me?” Kris asked sincerely.
“I…” Adam tried to explain. “I guess it never came up!” Then he shrugged his shoulders.
Kris tilted his head to the side, “You’re my boyfriend. We live together now. And you didn’t tell me you have phobia from spiders!”
Adam looked anywhere but Kris’s face. “It’s not phobia…well…a bit of it, and I didn’t want you to think that I…”
Kris finished for him, “that you have a weakness point.”
Adam nodded and looked away. Kris just held his hand and walked them back to their bed. They sat next to each other and Kris spoke, “you know that’s not considered weakness. Everybody has some sort of phobia.”
When Adam didn’t say anything, Kris tried another way to reassure his lover, “I have this constant fear that something might happen to my hands, like my fingers breaking or something and I won’t be able to play-“
Adam cut him off, “No! Don’t say that…” and he held both of Kris’s hands and started kissing them softly, every finger.
Kris’s heart swelled with warmth and he couldn’t believe how much that gesture filled him with unconditional love for Adam. He was amazed how minutes ago Adam didn’t want Kris to touch him, and now he’s kissing the same fingers that played with the spider.
Kris realized that this gesture summed up Adam’s personality. He can be scared, but he’ll be there for you. No matter what.
After feeling his heart beating regularly again, Kris explained what he wanted to say.
“Having a phobia doesn’t mean you’re weak...” he paused until Adam looked at him, still holding Kris’s hands.
So Kris went on, “it means you’re human.”
He was looking tenderly at Adam, and then he leaned in, swept Adam’s long black locks with his calloused fingers, and softly kissed his forehead.
Adam sighed and closed his eyes, relishing the tenderness of his boyfriend. When he opened them, he saw Kris looking at him with so much love that he thanked God for American Idol that gave him the chance to meet Kris, his soul mate…five years ago.
When Adam was able to find his voice, he said in a whisper, “what you just witnessed was a phobia I have, but do you really know what my weakness point is?”
Kris just shook his head and waited for the answer, but he wasn’t prepared for what came out of Adam’s mouth.
“You are.” Adam breathed it and Kris held his breath at the revelation.
True that they’ve been together, romantically, for two years only, and they had already declared their love for each other but nothing was close to this moment as Adam admitted that Kris was his weakness. He realized that it takes up a lot of courage for any person to admit that to someone, and he felt more in love with Adam than ever before, if that was even possible.
So Kris replied by framing Adam’s face with his shaky hands and leaning in to give him a very tender, loving kiss.
After a few seconds, Adam intensified the kiss, devouring Kris’s mouth in the process, and pushed him back to the tossed bed sheets.
Then suddenly Adam stopped and looked at Kris, “I gotta go shower!”
Kris, still dazed, got up and saw Adam standing up, “what?”
“Well, I wasn’t finished with showering when I saw that …thing…and now,“ he grabbed Kris’s hand and pulled him up, “you’re going to join me.”
Kris got up and smiled, “alright.”
When Adam dragged him to the bathroom, with Kris laughing behind him, he turned abruptly, “oh, just to make sure you understand, every time I want to take a shower, you are bound to join me.”
Kris raised his eyebrow, “oh really?”
Adam replied, “yeah, because I don’t think I’d recover from today’s episode for a long time.”
Kris pushed him slowly inside and closed the door behind him, “well…I hope that would be for a very, very long time.”
