Nightmare Two: Gray Mirror, Gray World

Nov 09, 2009 05:12

He stood in the sunlight on a high terrace. Behind him was the ocean, the sun cast his shadow long in front of him. Within his shadow stood a tall, full length mirror, the frame was ornately decorated, he could see butterflies in the patterns. The mirror itself was blank and gray. It reflected nothing, even when he stepped right in front of it, it showed nothing but gray. As if the surface were caked with ashes. He reached out to wipe away the grime, only to find his hand slid through the surface of the mirror like water. He still couldn’t see through it. But something on the other side caught his arm, pulled him forward.

As he was pulled forward, he saw a black-clad arm reach out, a body, legs and face followed, as Jack himself was pulled into the gray mirror. When he turned to look out of the mirror, he saw himself standing outside on the seaside terrace, a monster’s grin gashing across his gray features. He reached for that gray-skinned monster on the other side of the mirror, but his hands met solid glass, slick and cold. The monster grinned from the other side of the mirror, and reached through the glass that Jack couldn’t, poking his face through the barrier so that it was right in Jack’s own.

“Stay here.” The man with his face and the eyes that screamed for blood, told him. “Stay here forever.”

“I’d rather not.” Jack said, reaching to take the monster’s shoulder and pull him into the other side of the mirror. But his hand passed straight through the other, and the other laughed and laughed, backing out and turning his back on Jack, adjusting a top hat onto his head and walking away, whistling.

Jack turned to face the dull gray landscape, feeling an urgent need to escape, find some way out. The mirror wouldn’t work, some part of him knew, and so he walked away from it, across endless, unceasing, barren gray. There was no up or down, no direction, once the mirror vanished from sight there was just an endless sameness. He felt like he’d wandered for hours or months, until he found the crack. The glint of a white tear in the mind-numbing gray blankness. He reached forward to pry his fingers into it, groping the invisible seam as he strained with shoulders and arms and back, tore until his fingers bled, making the hole slowly, little by little, large enough to see the moon.

He reached his arm up, out through the crack, trying to grope for anything that might free him.

A butterfly landed on his fingers.

Jack awoke, disoriented, to find himself not where he’d fallen asleep.

((OOC: As before, note that these nightmares have nothing to do with Edensphere or its plot. They are relevant only to Jack's Noah and the process of it awakening.

Starting the night of November 8, Jack will have this dream two to four times a week. Every time he does he will wake up from sleep walking, either watching one of his housemates sleep to begin with, or as the weeks progress heading further afield. If you wish to follow him during this time, comment here to ask what you might see him do. When he has this dream, his stigmata does not bleed, but the marks do manifest.

Once a week or so he still has the white dream complete with stigmata effect.))
