I saw My Blueberry Nights, and I was unimpressed. This brings up a troubling point about the role exoticism plays in my affection for Wong Kar-Wai's movies. If In the Mood for Love had been made in English with an American cast, would I love it quite as much or would it fall flat? Sobering thought, to be sure ( Read more... )

So you mentioned Wong Kar-Wai and I just had to ask (although this has nothing to do with Wong Kar-Wai and simply involves another film from an Asian direcotr. And I do realize is an expanisive and diverse continent. Which makes my free-association a bit racist. Nevertheless ...), have you seen Tears of the Black Tiger? The director plays with cinematic iconography in a way that is just freaking delightful.

I haven't seen it, but it was shown briefly at the theater I used to frequent in Colorado. I saw a million previews for it and completely forgot about its existence until right now. Thank you for reminding me how much I need to see this movie!
