Dear Yuletide Writer,
First of all, thank you in advance! This is my first Yuletide, so I’m just really happy to get a fic in one of my favorite fandoms. I may have gotten a little carried away in this letter, so TL;DR: I ship things and would like fic on those relationships, but I’d love gen too. I like a lot of things and dislike a few, but go with what works for your story. I include prompts if you want them, but I’d be just as happy to read your ideas. I will pretty much adore whatever you write. Thank you so much!
Stuff I want: I am a ridiculous shipper at heart, so my favorite thing would be ship fic for the pairings I request, or gen fic focusing on their relationship; getting-together fic with a plot and eventually-resolved sexual tension is ideal. Porn or no porn is great-it’s the ship that interests me more than the porn. And I’d be thrilled with any fic at all for these books, so no worries if you don’t ship it! I love adventure stories, stories expanding on canon moments, what-if stories, lots of things. I’m providing a bunch of prompts that pique my interest, but if you prefer something more open-ended or come up with something else, go ahead! Also, feel free to include characters I didn’t request-I like pretty much everyone in all these books. If you want to stalk me, I'm usually on Tumblr, same username.
Stuff I don’t want: No non-con or commonly squicky stuff (scat, etc.), please! I’d prefer not just PWP; I’d also like to avoid crossovers, fic that’s all about a pairing I didn’t ask for, character bashing, and AUs in a different setting (like coffeeshop, everyone is ponies, etc.). I’m more interested in getting together (or pre-getting together) than established relationship fic, but that’s not a deal-breaker or anything. Again, I’m just happy you’re writing more fic for an awesome book.
Fandom: My Teacher Is An Alien - Bruce Coville
Characters: Broxholm, Peter Thompson
What I Want:
Peter and aliens! If you take a look at my 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea requests, that gives an idea of what I’d love in fic: Peter interacting with a strange new world, with wonder and curiosity and determination. I only nominated Broxholm (since he’s my favorite), but Peter with any aliens or alien situation would be great. And I love Susan and Duncan and everyone else, so feel free to include them.
I secretly ship Broxholm and well aged-up Peter, but I know that’s going to be squicky to a lot of people so please don’t feel obligated! (If it’s the father-figure bit that bothers you rather than the age gap and former student thing, Susan/Broxholm is also intriguing. Or Duncan/Kreeblim. Hell, anyone at all with Broxholm or Kreeblim, they’re great. Just no underage please!)
Also Poot. I’ll love you forever even more if there is Poot.
Prompts:
- I want to see Peter being an awesome teacher on Earth! I totally see him becoming a teacher after the books, changing the Earth for the better--but does he get to see the stars again? Trips off-world during summer vacation, inviting his alien friends over for coffee? I love that he chose to stay on Earth when he loves the stars so much; is it enough to know what’s out there, or does he still miss it? If you’re inclined towards Broxholm/Peter, I can see Broxholm staying to teach with him--do they both miss their other home?
- Peter (and/or Susan and Duncan) dealing with weird alien shit. The series is really, really good at making aliens that are extremely alien--seeing humans deal with that (or aliens dealing with weird human shit!) is always great.
- Really, anything post-book. I want to know what happens to everyone and how they save the Earth!
Fandom: Quadrail Series - Timothy Zahn
Characters requested: The Modhri
What I want:
First of all, if you’ve read this series, I love you. If you haven’t read this, see my pimping post and go read it, whatever it is you’re actually writing fic on. So my favorite thing about this series is the Modhri: he’s a really cool alien concept, a menacing and competent villain, and eventually a being sick of being enslaved and learning to see things from a very alien viewpoint. And god help me, he’s strangely attractive despite the fact that he’s coral polyps inhabiting the bodies of, like, bird aliens.
So by the last two books, I was shipping Compton/Modhri like mad. Like I said in my pimping post, I really love the Enemy Mine trope; seeing Compton and the Modhri learn to trust each other, and the Modhri learn how much he wants a friend, was the greatest thing. If you’re up for working out weird interspecies parasitic hive-mind ships, Compton/Modhri would be amazing. (The other necessary participant(s) can either be consenting or just handwaved in some way if it gets physical.) But I would just love anything Modhri, with or without any other characters you’d like. Or even a focus on the other characters because this fandom needs fic!
Prompts:
- Modhri/Compton after they start working together, because their friendship is so sweet. Compton seducing one of the Modhri's Eyes, to the Modhri's confusion? Morse serving as go-between/third partner? Modhri wondering what this ~strange new feeling~ is? There are so many possibilities! (And I am fine with inclusion or lack of inclusion of weird alien biology if porn is involved.)
- What if the Modhri took Compton as a willing host? Could be shippy or not--I'm just interested in what circumstances could force it and how they'd deal with it. Modhri & Morse would be great too.
- First-person Modhri anything. How does he think? What becomes of him after the last book? What was his life like with the Shonklaa-raa? Any of the events of the books from his perspective would be great too, and/or any interactions with other characters.
Fandom: Star Wars: Thrawn Trilogy - Timothy Zahn
Characters requested: Thrawn, Pellaeon
What I’d like:
ANYTHING WITH THRAWN AND PELLAEON THEY’RE AMAZING
If you prefer more details, I ship them a lot. I’m really interested in what could have been between them; in a different situation, if Thrawn had lived longer, might they have become friends? Pellaeon clearly looked up to Thrawn and was getting over his initial wariness of an alien commanding officer, and Thrawn saw his potential in adopting him as a protégée. In the Hand of Thrawn duology, ten years after the Thrawn trilogy, we see Thrawn made a hell of an impression on Pellaeon-it’s been a decade and Pellaeon is still hurt by the thought of his death, by the idea that Thrawn might have come back from the dead and not come to him. It’s more personal than just professional pride; Thrawn meant a lot to him. What would Thrawn think of what Pellaeon made of himself?
Also, as regards to the rest of the EU: I’m fine with either following it or just working off the Thrawn Trilogy. Please don’t think you have to read 8 billion books to write for me! If you haven’t read the rest of the EU but are interested in Thrawn and/or Pellaeon, I’ve compiled a list of books with them in it. If you can only read one two, I highly recommend Specter of the Past and Vision of the Future-Pellaeon gets so much character development and is generally amazing. And if you’ve read Outbound Flight, I am perfectly fine with past Thrawn/Car’das because come on.
Prompts:
- AU where Thrawn didn’t die (possibly because Pellaeon managed to jump at him and knock the knife aside?). Pellaeon starts to see Thrawn as more of a person than a mysterious genius-and this is not making him any less attracted to him.
- Thrawn comes back to life because Force something blah blah blah. I don’t care if this follows the EU timeline or not-just that Pellaeon has had time to miss him.
- This is even more optional than the rest of the optional details, but if you’ve read Hand of Thrawn: After the end of Vision of the Future, Flim attempts to seduce Pellaeon while dressed as Thrawn. Pellaeon really did not need to realize how much he wanted Thrawn ten years after his death.
- Seriously, anything with the two of them talking. Any other EU characters welcome, especially anyone created by Zahn. (I’d stay away from movie characters just because that’s why this wasn’t in Yuletide last year…)
Fandom: Vingt mille lieues sous les mers | Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea - Jules Verne
Characters: Pierre Aronnax, Capitaine Nemo | Captain Nemo
What I Want:
Catalogs of fish I love this novel, and I love seeing it through Aronnax’s eyes--his wonder at the sights he’s seeing, his endless enthusiasm for science, and his fascination with Captain Nemo. I’d really love to read more about the relationship between them, whether during the novel or continuing after it; I definitely ship them, but gen is great too! And although I didn’t
nominate them, I’d love to see Ned, Conseil, and of course the Nautilus.
And plus 10,000 points if Nemo is actually Indian! I don’t care if you don’t identify his race/nationality, but if you do, going off his official life story would be awesome. If you haven’t read The Mysterious Island, it’s in
Book 3, Chapter 16; long story short, he was an Indian prince named Dakkar who fought in the Sepoy Mutiny against the British, after which his wife and child were executed. I also really adore the 1954 Disney movie--if want to mix and match bits (except Nemo being, uh, British), that is 100% okay.
Prompts:
- What was Aronnax’s life like after the Nautilus? Did he ever get to see the wonders of the sea firsthand again? Did he miss Nemo? Does he find him? (There’s already a great fic out there with this premise and I would love even more variations!)
- If you’ve read The Mysterious Island (or are willing to Wiki it), I’d love to see Aronnax and Nemo meeting again during that book. The dates will require some fudging, as Nemo actually dies in The Mysterious Island before Twenty Thousand Leagues takes place, but anything just vaguely touching on “Nemo retired to a mysterious island and is mysteriously helping some castaways but Aronnax shows up or is with him” would be awesome. Also awesome: something about Nemo between the two books.
- During his time on the Nautilus, Nemo tells something of his past to Aronnax--maybe his name, nationality, his family. Is it because he expects Aronnax will never leave, or because he trusts him not to reveal it if he does?
Thank you again, dear Yuletide writer. You clearly have excellent taste.
Yours,
JH
