Selca Eight: If I Had You
Their hand holding resulted to sweaty hands, awkward glances, irregularly beating hearts, and blushing smiles. Tiffany’s mind went blank when Taeyeon caressed her hand. She recalled that time that she was straddled by Taeyeon and she caressed her hand in the same way. And then she became immensely embarrassed. Questions as to why she kept on acting like she had this crush were indeed baffling. Taeyeon had done more than hand holding in the past when they were still together, and she did not understand why she still felt like they never dated.
When their fellow trainees started to head to the locker rooms to change, Tiffany found their hands still intertwined. Upon realizing this, she immediately let go. Taeyeon could not find out that she was feeling that way because it would break their promise to stay away from each other for everyone’s sake.
“So-sorry if I did that.” Tiffany looked away and she swore that she saw Taeyeon smile at the corner of her eye.
“It’s okay.” Taeyeon nonchalantly said after turning her back towards the locker rooms.
When Taeyeon stood in front of her locker to change, she looked at her complexion on her small locker mirror. She noticed shades of red on each side of her face. Never had it occurred to her that her feelings may be more obvious than she think they are, and then she started feeling nervous.
Changing onto her clothes, she saw Tiffany changing at the corner of her eye. Tiffany’s well shaped buttocks were reflected onto Taeyeon locker mirror that the past sensation of having to touch it reentered her mind again.
It was during that hot summer afternoon when vocal training was canceled that they decided to lounge on the couch of their spacious apartment rather than going out like the other trainees. Tiffany laid her head on Taeyeon’s lap while Taeyeon flipped through the T.V. channels. Taeyeon could barely remember what she was watching but she remembered Tiffany sitting up and eventually going on top of her. Tiffany did it too perfectly-as if it was rehearsed. The kissing was not too needy, not too hasty either. It was light, it was perfect and it was just enough for Taeyeon to kiss her back.
Taeyeon remembered the softness of Tiffany’s body, the gentleness of her lips, and the heat of that hot summer day. The sensations she felt that day, even the softness of Tiffany’s butt-no, especially the softness of Tiffany’s butt that almost made her faint were so vivid. Her thoughts flooded of wanting to feel Tiffany’s body again, one more time, again.
“Ummm…Ta-Taeyeon-sshi.”
Her thoughts were interrupted by the one who she wanted the most.
“Y-yes? What is it?” She nervously asked.
“Can you give me a kiss?”
Taeyeon’s brain went haywire. Tiffany, the one she’s been wanting was asking such a trivial question that surpassed all logic. She was just fantasizing about their time together; Tiffany’s touches, kisses and caresses and now Tiffany’s asking something so irrational that it completely obliterated all the walls of constraints she had.
She pulled Tiffany by the waist with their faces as close as an inch in between. Taeyeon looked at Tiffany and Tiffany stared back. Looking at Tiffany this close made her heart race again, just like before. Tiffany looked at Taeyeon with just as much thirst as her and Taeyeon touched her soft lips before finally going in for the kill.
“Mmmmm…” She kissed Tiffany hungrily and she knew what she was missing all this time. It was this. It was how Tiffany could give her a sense of completion like this.
The kiss lasted for a few more minutes than she initially planned, and Tiffany’s hands have somewhat found their way to Taeyeon’s shoulders. Tiffany’s lips glided against hers and she found herself weakening with every single second that they shared. She held Tiffany closer to her heating body and Tiffany did not hesitate to give her what she wanted. With every pant, and moan that Tiffany gave, Taeyeon was encouraged to do more. But when she touched Tiffany’s thighs, Tiffany backed away.
“Umm…” Tiffany started. Tiffany’s cheeks had a pink tint and her hair was slightly disheaved. When she finished fixing up her clothes, she looked at Taeyeon with a shy look. “C-can you give me the keys…now…”
Taeyeon raised her eyebrows after hearing what Tiffany said. She had accidentally kissed Tiffany without her consent by mishearing what she said. Perhaps Tiffany did not like it or maybe she felt forced and now she had started to feel loathe for Taeyeon.
“So-sorry for what I did just now.” She stuttered as she ruffled through her sling bag. Taeyeon was genuinely ashamed with what she did that she lowered her head to avoid eye contact with Tiffany. When she found the keys, she held it out to offer it to Tiffany, but she did not respond. When Taeyeon looked at Tiffany, their eyes met and Taeyeon could not look away.
That was when another miracle happened.
Tiffany gave Taeyeon a kiss on the cheek and she looked away. Taeyeon still saw the tint of blush from Tiffany’s cheeks and she wanted to hug the super adorable girl. Tiffany kissed her after shying away. Tiffany really kissed her.
“Now…we-we’re even.” She stuttered before walking away. Taeyeon held her cheek to calm her furious blushing and she could not help but be happy without a proper justification as to why. All that she knew, and all she had to believe in-at the moment, was that Tiffany responded to her kiss and initiated one. For Taeyeon, that meant something.
For sure, that surely, really, absolutely meant something.
------------
Tiffany rushed to the van that they were supposed to ride home. Her heart paced while remembering what happened between her and Taeyeon and she grew weak all over. She missed those tender lips and she never expected to have contact with them once again. Brushing all thoughts of hope away from her head, she wore her earphones and placed it on the Jazz playlist that reminded her of Taeyeon.
Hearing the same old songs gave her a will to go through every single day, though it was unbearable. It was, in a way, a temporary fix for her mind, her soul, and her bleeding heart. She will never end up with Taeyeon and that was the bitter reality of things.
When the van’s door shut, she came back to her senses and found Taeyeon sitting next to her.
Tiffany felt conscious with having Taeyeon next to her since they usually sat in separate places. They were the only ones in the van besides the driver so Taeyeon sitting right next to her felt a bit premeditated. She turned up the volume on her music player. What she did not need now was a heart attack from sitting next to Taeyeon.
She breathed deep to calm herself down. The song wasn’t making anything better so she took off her earphones and focused on the road.
Taeyeon looked to her side and saw that Tiffany looked upset. She thought that it may be because of the kiss she gave but Taeyeon thought that it did not follow because Tiffany kissed her back. She thought that Tiffany wouldn’t be angry or anything if she never showed aggression at the locker room. In fact, Tiffany blushingly kissed her!
A small smile painted on Taeyeon’s face when she thought of Tiffany’s blush after the kiss and she once again wanted to give in to her. To give Tiffany all of her smiles, all of her words of affection and everything she could offer. It was tempting enough to evade all logic.
Without giving much thought in it, Taeyeon took a risk. She advanced her hand to Tiffany’s and she made a wager with herself. If Tiffany would allow her to hold hands with her, then perhaps she was not the only one suffering. Perhaps, they could work this out. Perhaps things are much simpler than they really appear.
When Tiffany felt Taeyeon’s hand slide into hers, she felt her jaw drop slowly as Taeyeon’s grip grew firmer and firmer. She looked at Taeyeon but Taeyeon had her eyes focused on the road. Out of her nervousness, Tiffany let go and she found Taeyeon’s hand eager to withdraw as well. Then she thought fast. If this was Taeyeon’s way of reconciling them, then she would take it as it is.
They held hands for the entire ride and it felt like forever. Taeyeon caressed the back of her palm with her thumb and she wanted to hug her. She wanted to tell her how much she meant to her and how hard she’s willing to compromise to keep her. Tiffany was hopelessly head over heels for Taeyeon, and she did not care about anything else but saving them.
--------------------
They broke away their hand holding when the car’s engine halted. They exited the van and they stood in front of the giant building where their dorms were.
“I’ll see the two of you tomorrow.” The driver said before speeding off.
The two of them wanted to break the silence but both of them waited for the other to say something.
Tiffany dared not to look back but she felt Taeyeon smile. She was reminded of that radiant smile that Taeyeon showed that always gave her hope, and she felt elated herself. They somehow had a fill of each other for that day and that was more than enough to keep her going for a week or so.
Just when she took a step forward to go into the tall edifice, she felt the shorter girl’s hand land onto hers. The strange feeling of the past suddenly creeping in again to haunt her was a scary thought. She thought she had moved on even for a little bit but the moment just proved her dead wrong. She was just as in-love-if not more, as she was before.
Taeyeon held her hand as they went to the elevator, and then she began to relax. Butterflies floated in her stomach and her knees found it hard to move along the way. Inside the elevator, thoughts of wanting to do so much with Taeyeon invaded her mind but she felt scared that she was perhaps delusional of this whole thing. Things like hand holding, and smiling at each other are things that two perfectly normal people can do on a whim, without a trace of inappropriate intentions. She closed her eyes in anticipation of their arrival but it felt like an eternity. Then Taeyeon did something that casted all Tiffany’s doubts away;
She held her by the wrist gently to the corner, and she gave Tiffany a chaste kiss.
When Taeyeon tried to break away, Tiffany just couldn’t resist.
“No… no…” she mumbled after locking her arms around Taeyeon’s neck and fully embracing her. Their lips hungrily moved against each other and they grew breathless with each moment. Taeyeon slipped in her tongue and Tiffany didn’t hesitate to give her permission for entry. Their hearts paced, breathing hitched, and Tiffany felt like Taeyeon was her only lifeline.
“I’m sorry but I just can’t live without you.” Taeyeon took the exact words from her own mouth. “I lo-"
Tiffany silenced her by pressing her finger on Taeyeon’s lips and she lifted it to kiss Taeyeon.
Taeyeon already stole her heart. She couldn’t let her steal the same words she’s been dying to utter ever since they broke up.
“I love you too, Taeyeon.”
-------------
They found new joy in realizing that the things between them were going back to normal, and the two of them felt total relief. Taeyeon kept a smile on her face for the entire walk to their apartment and Tiffany did not hesitate to hide hers. They both felt like newlyweds, shyly parading to their honeymoon suite with nothing but each other in mind.
Unfortunately the sound of the telephone disturbed them as they went on their way to Tiffany’s room and Taeyeon signaled Tiffany to go ahead without her.
When Tiffany arrived to her room, she happily hugged her pillow to rid of her excitement. Taeyeon was back and Tiffany felt like she was having her own perfect ending. Taeyeon had found her way back to her arms and Tiffany had no more intentions of letting her go like before.
“Taeyeon-ah, sarang hae.” She recited in a cute voice to show her aegyo. It was something she was somewhat unfamiliar with, since she never grew up doing it in America. She thought that Taeyeon would love her attempt it at least once.
The door creaked open and Taeyeon approached the bed where Tiffany laid down. Taeyeon sat on the corner of the bed and she held Tiffany’s hand and kissed it.
“Fany-ah. I have to go back to get some things from my mom. She’s in town and she wants to meet me.”
Tiffany felt disappointed and she did not utter anything. She wanted to cuddle with Taeyeon and for that to be snatched in such a short time was just cruel.
“I’ll be back before you know it.” Taeyeon whispered before kissing Tiffany’s neck. “You should hurry up, We’re a Fake Couple is starting soon.”
Tiffany flashed a smile to Taeyeon. Taeyeon knew the show that she just started watching a few days back after their break up. Perhaps Taeyeon was carefully observing her and she felt pleased.
“Please hurry up and come back.” She kissed Taeyeon with a possessive jab. Tiffany felt Taeyeon smile during their kiss with Taeyeon’s hand, already on her chest. Tiffany pushed her hand away as she broke off their kiss. “Don’t leave me hanging.”
“I’ll be back.” And Taeyeon went.
------------
Tiffany sat on the couch to watch We Have a Fake couple that Yoona recommended her days prior. The show was refreshingly new and different from what she had seen before. The girl looked like Seohyun and it amused her to see Yoona react jealously with the girl’s actions towards her partner. In a sense, it was an added bonus to the show.
Ten minutes in to the show and she was already thinking about Taeyeon. She missed Taeyeon that she wanted time to speed up but she had no choice but to wait patiently. Eventually the show came to a commercial and she stirred a bit more. Then she finally noticed that Yuri had come to join her.
“Tiffany, can I talk to you?” Yuri said and she felt a bit guilty with her newly-established affair with Taeyeon. Yuri and Jessica were the reason why they broke up and now that they were back together, it felt unfair to be in a relationship when the two of them have split up.
“Sure.” Tiffany tried to smile cheerfully but she still felt a bit nervous with Yuri. She lowered the volume to hide her nervousness.
“Is Jessica seeing Jaejoong?”
“I…I don’t know.” Tiffany felt taken aback with Yuri’s question. She had not been in check with Jessica at all and if Yuri’s question was accurate, then it meant that she was partly responsible for their break up. “Honestly, we haven’t really been talking.”
“Oh…” Yuri rested her back on the couch and Tiffany felt empathy for Yuri. She knew that it was not Taeyeon’s intention to break the two of them up, and it just happened. Tiffany then wanted to know the truth even if it might ultimately hurt her and sever their relationship completely.
“I’m sorry, she has been avoiding me but are things okay between the two of you?” She lied. The truth was, that she was too occupied in her own drama with Taeyeon to check up on Jessica but she kept that a secret. Nobody knew about their relationship yet, and she felt like it was the wrong time to say it with Yuri and Jessica’s crisis happening in front of them.
“No, we broke up.” Yuri coldly replied. At this point, she was heartbroken to be the catalyst for such an unfortunate event.
“Oh, I’m sorry for asking.” She kept her head down. Tiffany had been a cruel and selfish friend to her best friend and maybe staying with Taeyeon wasn’t the best idea after all.
“It’s okay. Let’s hope for the best for her.”
Maybe, they weren’t meant to be after all.
----------------------
Tiffany was half awake when she felt the bed dip from a new weight added on the edge. She opened her eyes to be greeted by Taeyeon’s smiling face and she painfully gave the best smile she could to her.
“I’m here now.” Taeyeon took the pillow away from Tiffany and embraced her. The same warmth she longed for was back and she felt secure in her arms like she always did when they were together. Taeyeon was always the one that protected her and how she held her now felt like Taeyeon was doing just that.
“Jessica is together with Jaejoong and she left Yuri.” She buried her tears on the crook of Taeyeon’s neck. It pained her to be guilty of having a relationship with Taeyeon but she did not want to let her go. “I know I’m selfish but-but I can’t let you go. It’s too hard.”
Taeyeon paused for a second and caressed her to calm her down and then she gave Tiffany’s head a light kiss. Taeyeon always knew how to calm her senses down even when she felt worse than worst.
“You know, Tippani…” Taeyeon started and Tiffany patiently waited for her words to flow in. Taeyeon was perfect in terms of cheering her up and Tiffany adored that Taeyeon always knew the right words to say to her. “I immediately regretted our break-up when I told you that we should.”
When Taeyeon paused, Tiffany realized that Taeyeon’s heart was beating rapidly.
“I never told you but you’re really the better half of me.”
Taeyeon kept on pausing that Tiffany finally understood what was happening.
“As the days went by-no, the hours, the seconds…I found myself needing you more and more.”
“Wanting you more and more.”
When Taeyeon stopped again, Tiffany noticed Taeyeon’s voice tremble.
“I needed you on every single moment that passed by and I tried to keep it all cool by pretending that everything was okay.”
Taeyeon’s hand turned into a fist and Tiffany knew that Taeyeon was trying hard to keep herself composed.
“I’m truly sorry, and I deeply apologize Tippani, because even if you believe it’s best for us to part ways in order to be fair to those we have harmed, I cannot do that. I am sorry that I can’t give in to your demands; that I can’t be modest enough to let you go. I’m sorry but I’ve fallen for you too hard that at this point, I can’t live without you.”
“I was very happy when you told me that you wanted a kiss, even if it was just me hallucinating that you did. I enjoyed every single moment of that kiss and I thought that, that could keep me for a good week or so. I thought that it was enough but in all honesty, it will never be enough.”
Taeyeon let Tiffany go and she looked Tiffany straight in the eyes. She put Tiffany’s hand on her rapidly beating heart and Tiffany felt overwhelmed with all of it.
“You’re the only one that can do something like this. My every single heartbeat, beats for you.”
Tiffany felt breathless and weak that she immediately kissed Taeyeon. Taeyeon kissed back with just as much force and they tried so hard to catch their breaths. Their hearts thumped rapidly and the two of them felt feverish. Tiffany’s doubts were all erased as they continued to kiss and savor each caress.
Tiffany knew, and Taeyeon knew.
The two of them needed nothing else but each other.
