6 months. 6 freaking months you’ve been living like hell because of your neighbors. Those horrid fan girl screeches at 5 in the morning when they see Super Junior members, yes, they’re your neighbors, go out of their dorm rooms. You’ve had a few encounters with them and you could say they’re nice people. Only the so-called fan girls ruin your day. In fact, you’ve been crushing with one particular member of the said group.

Lee Donghae. Those gentle eyes, luscious lips, muscular biceps, and firm thigh beneath those faded jeans he usually wore. And no, you haven’t been staring and observing him.

It was nearing 3 in the morning when you arrived at the condominium you lived in, you rested your head on the wall adjacent to the elevator while waiting for the lift to come down. You were dead tired.

All those news covering, reporting, scolding from the channel director, you just wanted to sleep. You never knew taking up journalism would lead to all this work and stress. You tilted your head up and looked at the descending numbers that lighted at each floor it passed on.

21. 20. 19. 18.

17 more floors until it reached you, and you could already feel your body hitting that comfy bed of yours, your head nuzzling your pillow that you secretly named Mr. Softy, and that warm blanket that smelt of strawberry for some reason. The elevator’s taking far too long to go down.

You sighed audibly and noticed a figure coming near you from the glass door of the elevator. Your body stiffened and your eyes grew wide. It was Donghae. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Lee Donghae’s coming near you.

You noticed that he looked almost as tired as you, maybe even more. It’s just that he looked way more presentable than you. Reluctantly, you looked at yourself in the door of the elevator while wondering how he could still look good despite of the tired state he’s in. His eyes then locked with yours and you looked away immediately. You tried to comb your like-it-was-hit-by-a-typhoon hair, tucking a few strands that was falling on the sides of your face behind your ears.

-ding-

Relieved, you entered the lift and it didn’t even register to you that he’ll be riding it together with you. You mentally smacked yourself for even being relieved. 12 floors. That shouldn’t be too long. I hope. You kept repeating that in your head.

You kept on fiddling with the zipper on your hoodie. Great move, you think. You’re making him think you’re very uncomfortable! You told yourself. So you tried to act relaxed and stuffed your cold hands in your pocket, then leaned on the wall.

‘You don’t have to be so scared. Just relax. I don’t bite.’ You snapped your head up when you heard him speak. Donghae was speaking to you. And you could only nod in response. It was with pure initiative that he tore his jacket from him and covered your shoulders.

‘T-thanks. But you really don’t ha-‘ You were already giving the coat back to him when he stopped you mid-track and put the garment back at your shoulders.

‘I insist.’ And he gave you a smile that could help warm up the whole of North Pole.

The door opened and he got out of the elevator, turned so he was looking at you again then said, ‘Good night. I mean, good morning.’ noticing the very faint light of dawn from the window in the hallway. Donghae made his way to their apartment and left you there dumbstruck.

Ever since that fated night, the two of you coincidently meet each other. You’ll buy coffee from the coffee shop across the building you lived in every morning, and before leaving, he’ll arrive and order his coffee, smile at you, then leave.

For three weeks straight this was your routine. Buying coffee, going to the tv station, then go home at 2-3 o’clock in the morning. It became a habit or yours to rest your head for a bit at the wall maybe because of exhaustion, then you’ll see Donghae looking stunning, as usual, and you, looking like crap. You two always rode the elevator together. Not saying anything for the first few days.

Without you knowing it, you’re actually having a decent conversation with him during the small amount of time you have during the ride. The moment he leaves, he’ll smile at you then bid you good night. Your co-journalists didn’t know what suddenly happened to you because they observed that you’re all giddy every morning. You’ve always had a beautiful dream since that night.

Every single time you see Donghae in person, or on tv, where you work-which was only one time, you always ask yourself what did you do your past life to receive this much luckiness and awesomeness. But all these changed when articles suddenly popped out from nowhere.

‘Lee Donghae of Super Junior with his lucky Mystery Girl.’ And on the paper were several pictures of Donghae with his arm looped around your shoulders while waiting for the elevator.

You didn’t know exactly how they did it, how they, the fan girls, managed to find your name, your dorm number, and your e-mail. You’ve been bombarded with hate mails and you’ve been struggling to get to work every day. And when a letter arrived threatening your family, you decided that they’ve already crossed the line. You couldn’t handle all of the stress and hateful comments anymore. And since then, you’ve been doing your very best to avoid Donghae.

Days, even weeks, passed with you completely being invisible to his life. The moment you catch a glimpse of him, you’d hurry to some place where you can be certain that he won’t see you. That charismatic, gorgeous, Donghae you always saw is well, still highly attractive, but the soul and warmth radiating from him is gone, big bags under his sunglass-covered eyes. He looked really tired, like he’ll collapse anytime soon.

At some point, you dared to blame yourself for this. Were you the reason for the sudden dullness in his life? But, that’s impossible. You shrugged off the thought.

As quickly as you can, you tried to jog across the lobby towards the stairwell when you saw him. But since luck wasn’t at your side at that time, your bag, full of papers-reports and articles and even some of the hate mails you’ve been receiving from work, split open widely causing dozens of papers to scatter on the floor. Donghae glanced at your direction and couldn’t help but be surprised when he saw you. He quickly left the still talking Sungmin and rushed to help you.

‘Here. Let me help yo-‘

‘No. I-I can do this all by myself. But, thank you.’ You replied without intending to be harsh. Him still crouching in the ground, you hurriedly gathered all the papers, stood up and rushed to the staircase. Tears attempting to fall from your eyes.

You ran, ascending the stairs while ignoring the person shouting your name repeatedly, heavy footsteps following you. The two of you reached the 5th floor and finally, he caught up with you. Donghae grabbed your wrist to stop you from running, you tried your best to shook it away but he held it tighter.

‘J-just, stop. Please.’ He said, voice quivering. And you stopped. He quickly climbed the remaining steps and hugged you from the back. His muscular arms wrapping around your waist. You could feel his rapid heartbeat beating in sync with your unsteady one.

‘I’m s-sorry. I really am. I didn’t know that you were going through all this. I-I’m sorry.’ He confessed while breathing heavily against your neck. His warm breath on your neck made you shiver like hell.

‘It’s my fault in the first place. You don’t have to say sorry. I should’ve been more careful. I shouldn’t have talked to you in the first place. You’re a celebrity, a top star, what was I even thin-‘ You didn’t have the chance to complete your sentence when you felt him turn you around and pin you to the wall parallel to the metal bars of the stairs, his hands on both sides of your head, and his slightly red eyes looking directly at you.

‘The only thing I regret was talking to you in the first place. You know why?’ You didn’t reply because you were doing your very best to hold the down tears. Your heart is torn entirely into uncountable pieces. It’s bleeding profusely and you couldn’t help it.

‘Because of you, I’m completely distorted and stressed.’ He said seriously while still looking at you in the eyes. He continued, ‘Because of you, my life’s a complete mess right now. I couldn’t sleep at all because of you. You…’ He took a deep breath. Then said,

‘You made me fall completely, undeniably, and irrevocably in love with you.’ Your mind and heart was still processing the things he just said and all of the nerves in your body went haywire when you felt his soft lips pressed against yours. He kissed you gently. It felt like you’re in a pool drowning in warm milk and honey, you wanted to stay there forever. The tears you were holding back awhile ago fell like a waterfall from your eyes.

You unconsciously wrapped your arms around his shoulders and kissed back. His arms found its way to your waist and held it tightly, pushed his body towards yours so both your bodies and flushed against each other. Donghae broke the kiss and he gazed at you lovingly, you felt like you were going to melt.

‘I’m really sorry about everything. You’re in this mess because of me. I’m so-‘ Donghae was halted when he felt your lips press in his own.

‘I love you too.’ Then a loud ‘yes!’ was heard throughout the whole structure.

To be your friend was all I ever wanted; to be your lover was all I ever dreamed of.
