half-marathon

Sep 17, 2013 20:00

So on Sunday, I ran (well, limped, more on that in a moment) a half-marathon. I trained for it with thwomp and when the one we were originally signed up for was canceled, we registered for the Erie Half-Marathon instead. I am a slow runner at the best of times, and Erie was...not my best of times ( Read more... )

So impressed by you. I'm pretty sure I will never in the rest of my life run anywhere, let alone on pavement, but I know how far that is. I hope you recuperate quickly and rest the rest of the just. :)

aww, thanks! It was mostly on asphalt, which is way easier than pavement, but still rough on the joints. Fortunately, I don't seem to have injured the hip any more badly by running on it -- it feels way better today than I would've expected from how it felt after the race.

Huzzah!!! Congrats! Running that while injured is an even bigger feat.

And hahaha on that psychological trick. I do that too, with mixed results. Damn mailboxes and cars.

It's my second-favorite trick! My first favorite is just talking myself up: You can do this! Your legs aren't tired! Lift your knees, see, your thighs are fine! Just keep going, you got this!

Damn, the Erie course. It's so pretty, but after a while, it is JUST SO BORING. You long for something to break up the monotony; I was super-surprised and pleased when I came to a bridge. SOMETHING NEW TO SEE!

I don't know from running (other than for required PT tests) but congrats! You can run farther than I can ride my touring bike on a single day, so the bear will eat me instead of you.

Also, you might want to talk to my pal corpsefairy about sports bras.

But you can probably ride faster than I can run, at least for as long as it takes to get away from the bear!

Uh, if she wants to?

She's getting into the import/resale business of properly sized bras from a British company and also does clothing design and sewing. Check out her LJ, I think most of it is public.

Ah! good luck to her; we can always use more importers of the good stuff. I'm thinking of changing to Polish bras, but I have yet to actually purchase one because I am conducting underwire shape experiments to increase my chance of selecting appropriately.

Congrats on finishing and not being too injured afterwards! I have similar goals for my upcoming race. :)

thanks! I'm worried that the hip will likewise slow me down in the Great Race & I'll get run over by a car.

Congrats!

And I totally use those same tricks... Running races is not so much being able to run, as convincing yourself to not stop running.

Really, if it hadn't been for Katelin, I might've given up. I've never been great at using the psychological tricks, and I can tell from how my muscles felt afterwards that at least part of the problem was my pace was my brain. I mean, the hip pain did not help at ALL, but...
