The bottom layer is basically graham crumbs and nuts held together by cocoa and sugar. The middle layer is basically a thick layer of icing. The top layer is chocolate.

They are ... sweet.

Too sweet, really, which is why I like the cookies better. But I'd eat more of the cookies, while I can resist a Nanaimo Bar at least 1 out of every 5 times it's available to me.

Unless they're frozen. The frozen takes the edge off the sweetness.

Well, it's obvious you should make nanaimo bars, then.

I should think that Nanaimo bars wouldn't hold up to being mailed and other perils of holiday cookies nearly so well as the chocolate oatmeal would would?

They're just for a local exchange -- which is even at my house. So they don't have to hold up to too much transportation.

The Nanaimo bars seem way more impressive and aesthetically appetizing. Plus, for holiday dessert exchanges, it's most fun for me to try to make something that will knock everyone's socks off. That's why we made Cranberry Obsession Snow Cake a couple weeks ago. I mean, the name alone....
