Sophie made her flyball debut. I was nervous -- I figured I send her off and then spend the next 30 minutes chasing her around the lanes. I am so proud of her!
You can start at www.flyball.org just to read up on the sport. I think YouTube also has some videos.
The site lists a team in Columbia: www.flyballdogs.com/onyourbark I don't know how active they are.
I know the people on the Florence team: www.flyballdogs.com/pawmettopack They have been known to practice in Sumter.
Does your pug chase/retrieve the tennis ball? You need to create a really strong drive for the tennis ball first. To get Sophie started I traded the tennis ball for treats as she's very food motivated.
Indeed she does chase/retrieve the tennis ball, though it is the smaller size balls since her mouth is smaller. Though she brings it back, she often refuses to release the ball untill she has a chance to chew on it a bit. I'm sure I could work on that, but it is mostly a function of how she learned to chase the ball.
Whenever I'm sitting on the toilet, she decides thats when she wants to play fetch. Since I don't want her constantly bugging me, I tend to toss the ball in hard to get places and that keeps her occupied for a while.

I've often said I should teach Boone to do the flyball thing... or something like it, because she is a jumper, runner, and LOVES to fetch.
Sophie is ADORABLE! Those EARS!
