OOC Question: Theorycrafting - Talents

Mar 08, 2012 04:36

So, I'm not sure what the level of interest in theorycrafting is for this community but I aim to find out today. That said, theorycrafting can sometimes turn into a debate and it goes without saying that everyone will remain friendly even if they disagree. Behave! >8[

I just recently had the mixed experience of playing alongside a paladin that liked ( Read more... )

Cool question. :D

I have never dual-classed myself, but as several of you know I have done a total class switcheroo. Tarin started out as a warlock on Wyrmrest Accord and eventually I switched her to a Priest. This was, admittedly, an OOC decision at first (where I wanted my main to also be an RP toon), but I wrote quite a bit of story in to explain it. She didn't become a Light-swinging Holy priest and she's actually really crappy with the Light and a pretty terrible healer. What she can heal with the Light is very, very minimal (and so her healing spec is 100% OOC). She never had training in the Light at all, so why would she suddenly be able to pick that up? While she was a Destruction warlock (which carried over from her history as a Fire mage), she eventually cut out the Fel, did a lot of studying and work, and improved her skills with the Shadow. Her entire storyline at that time and continuing onward even now is that she is trying to catch up because there's always new things to learn about her new powers. Dual-classing her ( ... )

Hah. Reading Aenstrian's post reminded me. Trae knew all kinds of arcane stuff before he died and reeeeeally liked fire. But he can't just run around lighting things on fire. :O It just.. wouldn't make sense and of course would be very OP. In order to counter the WHAT DO aspect of this, I simply wrote it that he can't do those things anymore. He didn't forget how to use them, but I simply had to shoehorn it in there some reason why this vast knowledge of magic simply.. stopped working. I BS'd, it but I think that BSing something that took away a power rather than giving him one is the lesser of two evils, considering I'm pretty sure runic/necromantic magic doesn't make your fireballs stop working. But OH WELL. :C

Because in WoW they’re ENORMOUS.

What I would give for reasonable armor. I spent five+ years playing FFXI. This is what paladin armor looks like in FFXI. I want to cry at how WoW armor looks. BE REASONABLE! Be realistic! ARG!

There are some in-game spells that can be OP when translated to RP, so I don't really mind bending game mechanics a bit to make sense ( ... )

I think my favorite "Why not?" was my friend's dwarven mage. The character had difficulties with some aspects of gesturing. To help her, she had a pair of pistols made to give her a channeling device.

Is it any surprise she shot fireballs with that thing? It was all well and great until someone else liked the idea and decided they too would shoot their spells, but use bullets.

This person was a healer. .-. No me gusta.
