Chapter 10
Blue never expected things to end up like this, but somehow, he knew that one way or another, he and Yellow would have to face Gold, to settle all of those unfinished business that went with loving each other and choosing to run away together.
He just didn’t realize that they’d have to do it this soon.
“Yuuji, d-don’t,” he mouthed, knowing that even without his voice he knew Yellow could hear him; Yellow was poised to kill, the defensive stance Blue once saw on Yellow when he was held captured by a child the first time they landed on Earth was evident, but this was different.
If the situation had been different - if Gold wasn’t Yellow’s own flesh and blood, then Blue might not feel the need to stop Yellow from killing anyone Yellow thought would bring harm to Blue but not this time. He knew that Yellow would forever blame himself if he as much as hurt his brother more than he already had, and Yellow realized it shortly.
“I love you so much,” Yellow mouthed back, his expression suddenly melted into something Blue would have thanked for later but realized too late how stupid it was to stoop down, to not fight.
Because clearly, Gold had other things planned inside that wicked head of his and really, Blue should have known.
He felt rather than heard Yellow’s screams pilfering through the surface and through the noises of the twin’s powers colliding against each other; he feels the buzz of something sharp and hot wheezing past him and Yellow’s screams going up a couple of notches higher when the wheezing sound had hit the wall behind him and exploded.
He found himself flying into the opposite direction, feeling suddenly numbed to his bones as Yellow screamed his name.
“Taaka! Taaka!”
It’s painful and the pain increased tenfold when he tried to move, the instinct to protect himself was quick when he heard Gold’s hysterical laughter despite Yellow’s louder screams. He looked up and his gaze was quickly met with Yellow’s writhing body suspended in mid-air, bent in an angle that he was sure was extremely painful; his heart jumped straight into his throat when Yellow let out a particularly vicious wail at the same time he heard something cracked, the tell-tale evidence of Gold’s evilness was now hanging limply in mid-air.
“Yuuji!” he screamed, loud and determined, suddenly feeling the adrenaline pumping through his veins at the sight of his lover, now obviously unconscious as Gold kept him there for a little while longer before letting him drop to the floor with a loud thud.
He sat up, closed his eyes and quickly called Yellow’s name under his breath, focusing his remaining strength into hearing the familiar beat of Yellow’s heart despite the irritatingly loud sound of Gold’s insane laughter.
There was nothing.
He tried again, pushing his voice out this time as much as he could and even despite the loud beating of his own heart against his ribcage. He’s starting to feel frightened, what with Yellow’s body still unmoving where Gold had left him and the fact that even after so many times he called out Yellow’s name, Yellow wasn’t responding.
“Don’t waste your breath, Taaka,” Gold whispered through all the hazy pain clouding Blue’s vision, and clicking his fingers together with his mouth curled like he’s mocking Blue all the more. Then Gold pointed his fingers to Yellow’s unmoving form and then Yellow was suddenly flying from his spot to the opposite side, his body hitting the wall with a frighteningly loud crack.
Blue hadn’t even give the chance to feel properly shocked before Gold spoke again.
“He’s dead,” Gold announced, tilting his head to the side and grinning; Blue felt all the breath left his lungs in a rush at the revelation. “It should have been you, but I guess this is even better. I planned on killing you at first, but my brother quietly pleaded for your life - telling me to let you live and -“
“And what?!” Blue found himself screaming, the initial shock fading into nothingness as anger took over in an instant. “You think that by killing him, you’ll have the chance of taking his place in my life, like you’ve always wanted?” he shouted, fisting his hands to his side as he kept his gaze down, warm liquid trailing his face while he thought of Yellow.
His Yuuji. The love of his existence. The reason for his everything - gone, dead, because of his very own brother.
Gold’s expression was suddenly that of someone who had been stabbed in the back unexpectedly, but Blue couldn’t find it in himself to care.
“H-He said - h-he promised -“ Gold stuttered, eyes widening as he finally realized the implication of what he’s done and how his brother had chosen to lie just to make sure he wasn’t going to kill Blue.
“Promised you what?” Blue muttered shakily, his chest clenching painfully in ways he could never compare to anything. “That I agreed on letting you take his place if you promise not to kill me? Is that it, Yuuri? Is that it?!” he screamed, finally looking up to see something different clicked in Gold’s eyes, standing up and quickly darting to the opposite side of the room.
Gold was still entirely speechless when Blue crouched down to pick Yellow’s body, cradling Yellow’s cold and lifeless form close to his chest.
“T-Taaka,”
Blue reached down and traced Yellow’s face tenderly, stroking Yellow’s closed eyes and mouth before he leaned down to drop a soft kiss against the corners of Yellow’s mouth.
He felt his anger seeping through his skin, the warm sizzle of the power he promised never to use against anyone was now boiling hot and fierce in his back, willing to focus his attention into taking down Gold now that he was sure that Yellow’s dead.
Blue looked up and growled. “Well, he lied!” he screamed, and in lightning speed he was on his feet, crossing the threshold between him and Gold; Gold looked momentarily stunned, only realizing belatedly that Blue was on him by the time Blue got to him, one of Blue’s hands wounded around Gold’s neck and the other he’s got spread, palms wide, letting his bluish flames gathered at the very center while he stared at Gold’s face.
Gold couldn’t use his power, not like this, not when Blue’s hand was curled around his neck, fingers shielding the hole at the back of Gold’s neck where he’s channeling his power to come out. Blue’s own burned brightly behind him, letting it spread from the back of his neck to his palm as Gold twitched and writhed against his hold, his eyes were a pair of freaked out glistening pools.
“You should have just left us alone, Yuuri,” he muttered darkly, pressing his fingers firmly against that hole on Gold’s neck. “You should have just accepted the fact that no matter what happens, I am not going to love you the way I have loved your brother,” he announced, and in that moment, he knew he couldn’t just allow Gold the luxury to breath freely, to let him escape here alive after he had heartlessly taken his brother’s life.
“T-Taaka, p-please,” Gold begged but Blue wasn’t listening anymore. He should be shocked by this unexpected turn of events, by how sudden the tables had turned to his favor just because he had finally gathered enough strength to fight back the way he should have done earlier, but found that he didn’t care much to what would happen after this knowing that there wasn’t anyone to go back to anymore.
Yellow’s dead and it felt like he died with him too.
“You had your chance to live your life as you please when we left, Yuuri,” he found himself muttering as he lifted his other hand close to Gold’s face, his power burning hot and fierce as it illuminated against Gold’s fear-stricken expression. “But instead of doing that, you stopped living for yourself and allowed your hatred to rule over the life your fathers had given you,” he added, his chest clenching at the fact that he too, was doing the same mistake Gold had done.
But there was no turning back now; it’s either this or wandered through life without the only reason he would want to do it.
His life ended too the minute Yellow took his last breath; Gold should have known it by now.
Gold shook inside his hold. “Do you think it was easy? Watching you leave with my brother knowing that you don’t want me? Do you think I wanted this? Do you think it didn’t hurt me to think of killing my own brother as much as it hurt you?!”
“But you already did! You already killed Yuuji! You - “, Blue gaped but kept his firm hold around Gold as Gold kept going.
“I love you as much as Yuuji does, Taaka,” Gold whispered as he stared into Blue’s eyes. “That hasn’t changed. So you do what you have to do and kill me if you think that will change everything. But it won’t, because in the end, you’ll be like me and you’d end up with no one but yourself, and your hatred for the one who took the meaning of your existence away from you,”
Blue felt himself slipped away, his consciousness fading from his grip as he let his flames touched the side of Gold’s face.
“You’re right,” he mumbled as he watched the blue fire slowly took over Gold’s whole body, his eyes wide but fearless. “But I won’t let myself end up like you because that’s where we’re different,” he confessed, his grip around Gold not loosening.
Gold kept his mouth shut as Blue’s flame burned him from inside out.
“Because I don’t intend to live long after this, Yuuri,” he confessed around a sad smile and watched Gold’s face broke into something he knew would be his last memory of him. “You took Yuuji’s life,” he said and paused, letting the confirmation of his words hit Gold hard.
“I’m taking my own life too,” he said as he let his flames traveled from Gold’s body to his.
Gold screamed tore throughout the whole place as Blue broke away from Gold and flew to Yellow’s side.
“Together,” he murmured, picking Yellow’s lifeless body up and cradling him as close as he could, while Gold screamed miserably and burned, “Forever,”
