I just made my first animated pic and I would love some opinions on it. I did this by the seat of my pants and I know it's not as awesome as what I've seen from others but I hope it's not awful

It looks like you made it, then shrank it to icon size. You'll get a better resolution if you start with a 100x100 template, and zoom in to design it, rather than start bigger and shrink it.
You're right, that's exactly what I did. I never checked sizes when I started and realized too late that it was huge in comparison to what LJ takes. I'll have to make a second one at the LJ template size. Thank you hun *smiles*
I think it's a very good first animated icon. I can notice what looks like a shift in the changing images but I think that's due to the female image being larger than the male image. I think if you made them the same height, it would reduce the shift. I don't know why a border would be there if you didn't originally have one. I definitely get the message you're conveying. You may want to consider bolding both words or neither of them because it seems just love is now.
As for representing others, I thought of maybe adding a violet male image and a violet female image to represent transgenders but that means to be fair you'd have to add more combinations, like violet male with red female, red male with violet female, etc. Another way of representing others is to add a red male image and blue female image. But I think violet being the combination of red and blue might make the message clearer rather than my red male, etc. idea. Basically, adding more representations may mean adding a whole lot more love combinations.
Combining the colors for the transgender group is a great idea. I've thought of all the additional combinations and I think it's more fair to try to represent every possible consenting combination than just to have what I do. My only concern is that if I have every possible, there will be too much info and it won't be paid attention to?
I'll go back and adjust the number of pixels they have for height to match, thank you for pointing that out for me.*smiles*
