Hey, we get snow too?

Michigan mostly escaped the earlier Snowpocalypse, but did get snow yesterday, into this morning. I heard figures of about 8-10" fell around here. Add in shifting wind, and it gets tricky to measure. I took the hubby's car to work this morning- not because I didn't think the MINI could make it but because I was afraid of the other drivers. Many ( Read more... )

I took a half day off work so I'd have a little leeway in how long it took me to actually drive in. As it turned out, by 11 AM, the freeways on my drive to work were clear, and people were driving along at 60-65 mph.

Except for the guy with South Carolina plates who merged in front of me a couple miles before my exit, who couldn't bring himself to go over 50. I suppose I don't blame him, if he's not used to driving in snow - except that he was going slow enough to be a danger to others.

Yeah, those are the drivers that can really cause problems in their attempts to drive "safely." Some people lose patience and try to get around them, and that can cause all sorts of problems.

But fun having half a day off work. :)

living vaguely close to a major university means that there are many non-Michigan drivers, who have no clue about driving on partially snow covered roads.

Except for the Michigan part, I'm with you there! These kids come up from wherever and think that just because daddy bought them a big honkin' SUV, they're now invincible. Ha! They're dangerous!

I went in to work but left at 10:30. Boone DoT just wasn't on it like they could've been and the roads were a mess! :S

Add in the foreign students - who may have to learn all new driving rules to begin with! and it's a mess.

I think our plow drivers got freaked by seeing Snowpacalypse Part 1 and were on the ball a lot faster than usual!

I've never heard of Heikki Lunta, but the moment I saw your reference to it, I just *knew* it was Finnish! Very, very interesting. I'll have to ask my mom if she's ever heard of Heikki Lunta. Kind of wish my Grandma was still alive, so I could ask her, too!

Are you of Finnish descent? (I don't think I knew that). My dad is 1/2 Finnish, 1/2 English (via Cornwall), he grew up in Michigan's Upper Penninsula- which has a lot of Finnish and Cornish English folks.

YUP! My grandma was 100%, but she married a German/Irish/English mutt, so I'm only 25% Fin. When my grandma first came to America, she settled in the UP. Once she and my grandfather met, he wooed her and brought her inland. Probably too many Finns up there for his liking. LOL. ;-)

I'm a thunderstorm, evidently. I'm all for that!

It's not a proper snowpocalypse. We didn't get over a foot in Lansing. Looks like right about a foot or a bit under. It's not a proper snowpocalypse until it's well over a foot in 24 hours.

Wisconsin gets way more snow. I'm used to thinking of a foot as nothing worth noticing, while a real storm can dump a couple of feet of snow.

Well no, we didn't get hit by the proper Snopocalypse, but there is snow. ;) A friend was writing on FB yesterday about living in South Dakota and the weather they have currently. We've got nothing on them. And I'm good with that.

I've got friends in Denver and daaaaaaaaaaamn do they get slammed! For that matter, my brother near Madison gets more than twice what we get.

In general, I'm good with it. But there's still something about a good proper massive snowmageddon that I miss. But what we got cleans up a lot easier! Especially with the sun today.
