The entire series has it's own tvtropes page under nightmare fuel.

The movie is apperently way toned down compared to the book, and the sequel's movie is just coming out.

It get's squickier and triggerier as the books progress.

Hmm, I wouldn't be surprised that the book is darker than the movie. I'm still on the fence about whether or not I want to read them.

I can also see how the further one delves into Lisbeth the squickier it gets...

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was amazing and gorgeously intense in its subtly, and it ripped my heart out with those scenes. It'll be a long time before I can watch it again because of those 2 scenes. And I can't wait to watch The Girl Who Played with Fire.

The actress who played Lisbeth was so, so fantastic.

Ugh. I would hate to see what the American movie conglomerate does to this series.

I'll have to look her name up, but yes, that actress was amazing. The choices she made for the characterization were spot on.

I'm thinking that the American version will have certain parts whitewashed a bit. Mostly because I don't think they'll try to make it a horror movie. There was talk that Emma Watson cut her hair off because she wanted to be considered for Lisbeth. Now I like her, think she's great, but I don't know as she could really get a good handle on Lisbeth.
