awww, this is adorable. I always liked Kate, and they make an interesting duo. I like the banter between them. (Banter is my kink!) this part especially.

He shrugged, grinning sheepishly. "Been practicing 'em for a few years. Never thought I'd have to use 'em on a human."

Kate narrowed her eyes at him. "What else would you use them on?" she asked, zeroing in on his choice of words.

Well, it's not like Xander can do anything but banter. :)

I think Xander/Kate is interesting, but it's somewhat hard for me to see. Although I think aside from Angel, if anyone could bring Kate out of her shell, it would be Xander.

I like this. Very interesting time for Kate to encounter one of the Scoobies, and probably the worst time for her to meet Xander if she wants to build up some trust for Angel. They do interact well together here, though, and it's interesting that she relates better to a nineteen/twenty-year-old than she does other detectives on the force (since, logically, she would have to be at least late twenties to have reached detective, unless her father got her a big-time fast track).

I like.

Yay! It's always nice to hear compliments from an author I adore. :)

That was one of the things I liked best about the Xander/Kate dynamic, honestly, is the age difference. I agree she was late twenties or early thirties, but that maturity I think could be easily broken into by someone who is young and innocent (in his own way).

I'm glad to hear it! I was nervous when I got your request because I wasn't sure I was going to be able to do it justice. It's good to know you're happy with it. :)

I always wondered that, too. I wish Elisabeth Rohm had stayed with the series, I think she would have made a good addition (and God knew they needed more females), but I understand her wanting to move on.

Thanks for the compliments, though. I was really nervous about posting this piece because it's so unusual a pairing, but I'm glad to see that it was well-received. :)

Thank you! I was anxious about writing Kate, and even Xander (since I haven't written him as a lead character in years), but I was pleased with how it turned out. I'm glad you liked it.

I liked that line, too. I thought it was a very Kate thing to say, and it would be amusing without her meaning it to be. :)
