Think of all the possible words that finish this statement:

God is _____________.

These usually include words like Omnipresent and Omniscient and other superlatives. What is the one word that we can do? The one word that implies an action, not simply a state of being. Which word is our command and basic tenet?

God is Love. Think about that.

I prefer to not finish the statement.

God is.

Perhaps it's because we're studying Moses in my Bible survey class, but I think the most powerful portrayal of God is I AM. Yahweh. He is. And in the end that is all that matters.

We actually talked about this me Edwards class today and it is interesting to note that God is equated with love something like 6 times in the entirety of scripture and with Omnipotence something like 70 times... I don't know how many times He is equated with holiness, though i am certain the number is very large.

I think maybe God is just too big (huge, magnificent, lovely, amazing, beautiful, etc.) To be predicated by one quality primarily. This is perhaps why the puritans wrote lengthy prayers that would take hours to say that merely bespoke His attributes.

God is love, the Bible clearly says so, but He is also Holy, and it tells us clearly that a Holy God hates sin, and hates injustice, and will pour out wrath onto the workers of iniquity. But i think this actually works with love, in harmony with it, though it definently doesn't fit with my human understanding of what love is.

love,
luke
