It's kinda pricey but gives a really nice, deep tone that boosts up the low-end using a tube-amp emulator. Violins are notoriously tinny and treble-heavy when amplified, so I try to go for something that boosts up the bass levels.
As I scanned my friends list, the first thought that popped into my mind at the sight of the second picture was, "Wow, Mary got her picture taken with Eric Stoltz!" Of course, I then promptly wondered why that had illicited a "wow".

I might suggest the L.R. Baggs bridge pickup. It's what I use and it it excellent!

The only problem is it takes a bit of installation time. You have to solder the pickup to the bridge, but once it's one the tone is excellent.
I also have recently bought an amp to use on gigs, the Shenandoah Accoustic Pro by Genz Benz.
