Last night's Animagus class was more eventful than I had anticipated. After a few more tests, Professor McGonagall and I transfigured the students into their prospective animal forms, so they could get an idea if they could handle the strain of an animal physiology. Some people cannot; their minds cannot accept that their bodies are no longer responding in the way they have become accustomed. I was pleased that no one immediately gave the prearranged distress signal, indicating they wanted to be changed back right away.

In fact, for Miss Abbott, the situation was quite the opposite. When it came time to be changed back from her otter form, Miss Abbott resisted. She apparently took to the form quite well, and didn't want to be changed back. In fact, she hid from me, under a cupboard. I couldn't transform her back while she was under there, she might have been hurt. And then when the door was opened the quick little animal darted right out. Merlin knows where she thought she was going; the lake perhaps? I doubt the giant squid would have taken kindly to that. Miss Abbott the otter was much faster than me; so I was forced to change to my Animagus form myself to track her down. This also had the added benefit that I could now smell her to track her.

After a protracted chase, I finally managed to corner her in the Potions classroom, of all places. I transfigured her back and she was immediately apologetic; said she couldn't seem to help herself, the call of the wild had been too great. No harm done; well, except for a few unfortunate potions that were placed in a most unstable position. Really, Snape, that shelf is a menace.

Of course, Miss Granger acquitted herself admirably as a fox, and Miss Chang did well as an albatross. The rest of the details were lost to me as I attempted to track an errant otter.
