So I could manage to live alone and not be poor all the time, I moved into a super small studio apartment with absurdly cheap rent. Ok that said. I'm kinda stumped because of the cabinet/counter top color (would they let you paint he cabinets? That would make a HUGE difference and modernize it more). My original thought for wall color was a pale yellow, keeping in that earthy feel that goes with your bed, but helping to brighten it up. But, not sure how that would look like the cabinets. Hm.
Perhaps you could pull colors from the rug you have, like a tan, or from the artwork you have hanging.
Good luck!

The cabinets kinda suck, they're so dark as is my closet. I will say, it looks beautiful when the sun hits down but they are dark.. and if I were to paint 'em, who knows what I could get away with. I DO love the hardwood floors though, it helps brighten up the space a lot.

I will say, even though this place is tiny.. I adore it. (I also adore my $400 a month rent with all utilities added.. In the most sought out part of Boise-the downtown/north end area.)
My armchair is pretty tacky, but it's the most comfortable chair ever and my x Tracey gave it to me.. I haven't been able to let it go yet! haha.
Thanks for the advice and liking my apartment! It's my very cozy hole, haha. It's also a shrine to my son, he takes over it.
