I think you generalize too much about the whole gloom and doom/nihilism aspect of industrial. There are some acts are that are all about that, but then again I'm certain there's a version of that in some of the indie rock stuff you listen to. "Gee my life sucks, guess I'll throw myself of a bridge" though it might be worded more elegantly than that ( ... )

So yes, industrial is dark in nature. And yes, there is some mindless junk out there for the club-going, self-mutilating goth kiddies. It's fair not to like the sound or the message (hey, sampled belt-sanders aren't for everyone). But it doesn't seem fair to tag it all as nihilistic garbage when it's not. And maybe the author was out of place saying industrial is more this or that than some other genre of the time, but saying "The average piece of Industrial music, in my experience, is not more intelligent than metal, more political than punk, or more thought provoking than pop music ( ... )

A) This is on the inside of an industrial album so she's totally preaching to the choir hehe. Industrial is much more mainstream on the other side of the pond (its their version of indie and alternative music). The closest they got over here to mainstream is NIN and Ministry, maybe you can count in Fear Factory and Skinny Puppy too ( ... )
