Ha! The ol' "give the place with Inauspicious Number to the gwailoh" tradition! I hear many a bargain can be procured that way by numerological unbelievers...

is that right?? i didn't realise it extended beyond 4, or 44 - aaiyah! - to 14, 24, 34 etc. fantastic! will certainly remember for bargaining!

According to the HK woman who ran a segment at the Crown Casino Intercultural Awareness Day I sat in on (and hey, if there's any establishment whose business it is to know their numerology...), 1=always, and therefore 14=always die. She said someone tried to sell her a car with 114 on the numberplate and she almost had hysterics, told them she'd be convinced she'd die in a crash every time she drove it. In the end, they agreed to give her 118 (always always prosperity! Ahhh, the Chinese) instead.
