Thank you for posting this. As I push my life in the direction of my dream of adventure, I have struggled with this idea a lot. I've gone as far as thinking maybe I'm not cut out for adventure if I crave security at all.

I'm so happy, relieved, inspired to read about your experiences with this dynamic. It gives me hope and reasserts what I've felt all along -- that whatever the risk, I don't want to wake up at 40 years of age and have nothing to show for this life but a well-cultivated security.

I know you can't see it, but I'm raising a victory fist for you and your family. I'm glad you got there.

we are kindred spirits of a kind, Strange, aren't we. i think i will shed a tear when you and your horsey take the first steps on your amazing journey.

you know what is also good? coming to this knowledge now, and the will to use it, instead of when it's too late to do anything much about it.

What your cousin mentioned is probably the Saturn Return, i.e. the time when Saturn (which has a variable-length orbit of somewhere between 28 and 31 years) returns to the place where it was when you were born. The word on the astrological street is that this evokes much soul-searching and life-changing.

And good on you! I, on the other hand, am happy at this stageto opt for home country security during the child-rearing years, but damned if I'm going to abandon my creative writing pursuits. In fact, since having Zac I've been doing more creative writing than I have for years, because of the courses I'm studying and their stirring effects on my creative endeavours. I did have a shaky moment yesterday when I left my clinging, crying son at family day care to study poetry. Urk. Sounds (and felt) like the ultimate in self-indulgence and neglect. But hey - he was completely unbothered the first couple of times he went. Hopefully he'll settle again. If he doesn't, I'll have to hope for better luck than you with forking out for a

yes, that's it: saturn return. thanks.

good luck with family daycare, or indeed any daycare. a minefield to be sure. and remember, any time away from baby isn't self-indulgence or neglect, it's refreshing yourself to be a better parent when you get them back again ;) convenient for me to say, of course - but most definitely true!
