From the reading pile again

Mar 01, 2012 09:07

Been doing a lot of reading lately, which is great because I love to read, and I'm putting a (slight) dent in my (huge) reading pile. But not so great because I'm far too likely to disappear into a book (or two) and not come out again...for a whole weekend, heh.

Spoilers have been put behind cuts.

That's EXACTLY it: "mired down". And everytime we turn around there's YET ANOTHER THING. Like Othar, or something. And there's still so much story to go, like finding Zeetha's lost people and figuring out what the heck the Baron has to do with that. And we're not even remotely to the images Dupree saw of Agatha and Gil in the future. I mean, I like that there's all this depth and it feels like the authors are planning things ahead of time, but I get so weary of how bogged down it gets ( ... )

I love the minions! Von Zinzer and Violetta and Snaug. I loved the conversation between Von Zinzer and Violetta about Agatha/Gil vs. Agatha/Tarvek. And I love how Von Zinzer has evolved from incompetent minor baddie in the very beginning to reliable and able minion, while still being believably the same character and continuing to deny that he's a minion. It's that kind of thing that makes me keep going even when the actual story is so bogged down and frustrating.

I used to favor Gil over Tarvek but after the whole Si Vales thing with them bickering and working together, I think Tarvek may still have some bits of his own agenda in there somewhere, but I think his feelings for Agatha are strong enough to override whatever his original plans were. Plus he strikes me as the guy who doesn't really want to be the power on the throne but would be far happier as the power behind the throne.

I found today's update to be particularly funny, given what I just said above about "yet another thing". hehehe...

Tarvek's nebulous shifting agenda is what keeps me from being fully in his camp. But only a little bit. I still adore him to pieces. And you're right, he works so well with Agatha and Gil and I don't want to lose that. I see Tarvek as wanting to be the power on the throne, though he's not all bloodthirsty about it. He certainly doesn't have a problem taking control and leading, like he was doing on Gil's airship.

I'm a huge fan of Diana Galbadon's Outlander series. I think you would like it, too. I couldn't get into the Lord John series but I'd like to try it again one of these days. It's been a few years.

I plan to try both series. Eventually. :) The short story was a Lord John story and I enjoyed it.

The Foglios were the GoH at our local sci-fi con (Arisia) in January. Andy wore an excellent Maxim costume, though it's still kinda half-finished. Unfortunately, my camera ate the picture I took... I haven't found any others, yet.

I'll post a link when I find some. :D
