Hey, sorry for the random comment (I found your LJ through strength2live), but I just wanted to say that I'd been reading the Hebrew Prophets (and just the Old Testament a lot in general) lately, and the Israelites always seemed to become more susceptible to corruption and taking everything (both physical and spiritual) for granted after a period where they had been devoted to God and he had blessed them. It seems to be a common theme throughout Jewish/Christian history. Just thought it was interesting to point out.

This is commonly referred to as the "Pride Cycle". The Book of Mormon is absolutely rife with examples of it happening over and over again. (The Book of Mormon begins essentially towards the beginning of the book of Jeremiah, when Israel was, once again, ripening for destruction)
