If you go to my pictures, you can upload your icon. On free accounts you can only have 3, but if you pay ($) you can have 15.
If you go to modify journal, you can edit the style of your journal and it's colors.

If you look next to the search box there is a menu, click intrest, and type something you're interested in, and a list of communities will appear. They are like guilds in neopets, and you can join one you like by clicking join now on the community main page.
