Anyone have experience with hydration packs that you'd like to share? I'm looking at buying one in the next week or so.

i'm very fond of my camelbak mule as well, which both tod and i have, as well as my brother la. i know la's frozen water or gatorade in his a lot with no problems with leaks, and cleaned it with bleach solutions occasionally when it got too icky from leaving gatorade in it for too long, and he's never had any problems. i personally haven't noticed whatever odd taste other people have commented on, but that may be because i use my pack when biking, and am often too thirsty for nice cool water to pay attention to the flavor. as for the mouthpiece, the bladder that came with my pack has a lock lever, so it can't get accidentally squished open, and i usually thread the tubing through the straps and loops on the shoulder straps so that it stays over my shoulder and is within easy reach for biking without flying all over the place ( ... )

Ditto on the mule. Mine's been on many long bike rides, to three Burning Mans, and a dozen other various events. It's always served me well.

I did replace the water reservoir with one of the Platypus ones - the kind with the heavy-duty ziploc top. Makes it much easier to fill with ice or drink mix or whatnot.
