The Romans celebrated the solstice today, December 25. (Today this is when the days begin to grow visibly longer, but their date was probably based on the true solstice in the Julian calendar.) I like how the most recognizable symbol for a festival dedicated to a Jew born in the desert is a Northern European with a snow vehicle and arctic megafauna.

Well, obviously there was a Christmas miracle and reindeer came to see Jesus born. It was just covered up later to say they were sheep.

Besides, everyone knows Santa Claus was one of the three wise men ;)

So that's why I got myrrh in my stocking this morning!

Adult male reindeer lose their antlers before Christmas, so Santa's crew is made up of women and children.
