VH1 or MTV: mtv
Ashton Kutcher or Brad Pitt: brad
Gay marriages: i understand the country's hesitation about changing the connotation of a marriage, which has traditionally been between a man and a woman, but back in the day people were just as skeptical about women's lib and integration. people who want to limit same sex relationships to civil unions argue that marriage is just a label...if it's just a label, why is it a big deal to allow it? we're all americans and we should all have the same rights.
Abortion: i'm definitely pro-choice...no matter how i would feel about having an abortion, it's not my place to make someone else's decision, and there are so many situations that might make a woman consider having an abortion: pregnancies resulting from rape/other forms of unwanted sex, the reality that birth control isn't 100% effective and that even women who take precautions can get pregnant, the possibility that a child has some condition that will make its life difficult and painful...the list goes on
The 2004 Presidential election: neither candidate represented what i was looking for, so i didn't vote. if i had been forced to pick one it probably would have been bush because i don't believe he will truly have an impact on issues that i'm strongly liberal about - same sex marriage, abortion - and i like his fiscally conservative policies
Religion in school: inappropriate in public schools, but religious education might be a different story. going to a private school and growing up in a diverse college town, i learned a lot about many different religions; for me that was an invaluable experience, but i don't think anyone should be made to feel uncomfortable by the presence of religion in a school, and i believe that ultimately a public school is obligated to make all students feel comfortable
Racism: unacceptable...it doesn't even warrant an argument
Different Race Relationships: again, it shouldn't even be an issue
MarkyKate and Ashley: it makes me sad to think they'll wake up in 15 years and wonder where their childhoods went
XTina: skanky-looking, but i do think she has a great voice
Michael Jackson: i wish we could bring him back from the 80s...he's creepy now
Britney Spears: her music is catchy. i don't really have an opinion one way or the other.
At least one place where you promoted this community:
i'll plug it in my lj.
(You can add in anything else you think we'll like about ya)
i love preppy staples because they are how i was raised: i grew up in a waspy town and went to a waspy boarding school...never leave home without good manners...expensive taste is about quality not cost...jackie o is my role model...i summer on the vineyard (nothing but love for nantucket, tho). i believe that if you have to try to be preppy, you're not, and that it's much cooler to be not preppy if that's who you are than to force yourself to be something you're not. i am typically nonchalant about preppiness, and hope i didn't come off as being snobby in this application...i go to a college with strong anti-prep leanings and would really enjoy having this community as a preppy refuge :-)
