I find that I have this same fear, but unlike my younger days when I had a public library handy and competitions at school to see who read the most books in a year, I do not devour many new books, but instead read the ones I own and really like over and over and over. For me it is a slight warning of depression due to inactivity when I am perfectly willing to close a Bujold novel and immediately open it at the beginning and start again. I have read her novels on the Vorkosigans more times than I could ever possibly count. It is definitely also an escape for me as well. Books are new worlds, new travels, and new, nonjudgemental nonstressing friends.

I belong in this camp too. Only I read Lewis and Tolkien over and over. I mostly repeat read because it is easier and cheaper. The last new book I read was "Snow Flower and the Secret Fan" by Lisa See.
