By the time my son arrived, I’d been coming out to people for twenty years - for so long that I didn’t even think about it any more, that it didn’t even occur to me that I was coming out any more. I was just talking about my life.

and i can't imagine how hard it is to bring this up when the external evidence (kid) makes people assume the mainstream norm...i'm glad it worked here, and i hope it'll get easier...

I feel like I get assumed to be straight quite a lot just being single - I can only imagine how much that's ramped up when you're a mother. But your new gay mom friends sound awesome, may both generations enjoy the friendship for a long time to come!
