Chapter 6:
The door clicked shut behind him and yet he didn’t have the energy to look away from the desk he had been intently gazing at. The conversation he had just had prior to his grandfather’s departure was still swiveling inside his mind.
“the choice is yours Yunho…”
He was void of any feelings at the moment. Nothing. He was blank.
“Harabeoji please!”
He knew what he had to do. He knew to whom he had to be loyal to. And he would not back out from his decision not now. No matter who it would hurt. He couldn’t…he just couldn’t bring himself to fail his family or his…
“In the end it all comes down to what you want. I’m sorry Yunho but I don’t think I can interfere in this matter.”
In the end it was his choice.
“But you’re the only one my father will listen to!”
“Listen son, your father is a stubborn one. But he made his verdict very clear…now it’s up to you to choose. What is it that you want out of life Yunho?”
In the end he was alone. But what was it that he wanted…
“It’s your life, only you know what you can’t live without.”
What did he want out of life?
Every time he shut his eyes he could only see that picture that he had painted with Jaejoong before him. He could only envision the life he had created with the other. But then with that warmth that came, it ended with a gush of coldness within him.
The memories flooded his mind until they overtook any other thought that had been there before. memories of his childhood, every Christmas accompanied by his family, when he had held his baby sister for the first time, Yoochun standing up for him at school, his mother holding him tight as he had cried when he broke his arm, his father tucking him in bed at the age of 5 when he was scared of his closet and the monsters that lived there, Changmin keeping guard that no one came as he had tried to take Yoochuns pocket money from his room. There was too many things he remembered and it was painful.
He wanted what he had created from his future…but now the question was…could he let go of the past?

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK
“urgh”
Jaejoong groaned at the loud knocking on his door which had awakened him from his sleep.
When he had decided that whoever it was that was knocking would not go away he had rolled off of his bed and had stealthily made his way to his door.
He checked silently to see who it was that that was knocking. Just in case it was someone unknown he could make his way back to bed without the other person hearing him and ignoring the other until they went away. To his utter luck it was none other than his landlord and it took all he had to open the door, not before trying to make the best of his bed hair.
“Hi Mr. Ohng please come in.” He greeted the older man politely while trying to stifle a yawn. It didn’t go unnoticed by the older man though who only smiled and shook his head.
“No its fine Jaejoong-ah actually I think I woke you up didn’t I?”
“No!” he assured quickly. “No you didn’t, I’ve been awake for a while now.” He lied.
The other man only laughed in response as he held out the brown envelope which he had been carrying along with him.
Jaejoong took it, and looked down searching for some address before realizing that there was none on it. He looked up questioningly only to be answered with an encouraging nod from the older man.
“Open it.”
“Oh okay.” He muttered as he tore the seal. It didn’t take him long to figure out what it was. It was the contract he had signed for the man when he had first come into the apartments.
“Does this mean…”
“The couple who stopped by the other day came back in just last night, they wanted the apartment. And just before you start worrying, I told them it was still being occupied and they agreed to give you enough time to get your things ready.”
“I-” he smiled at his landlord before extending his arm to shake the other’s hand. “Thank you so much for everything Mr. Ohng. I really appreciate everything you’ve done for me while I’ve been living here.”
“Now son, it was nothing.”
“I’m just..really glad that I won’t be leaving you with an empty place.” Smiled Jaejoong.
“It’s fine. I told you it would all be fine. Now I should get going and let you get back to your sleep.”
“No! I wasn’t sleeping!”
“Its alright. You probably have more important things than attending an old man like me.” The older man assured as he made to leave.
“No its fine just…Please come in. I could make us some tea, or coffee. Maybe juice?” asked Jaejoong trying to pull the older man into his apartment.
But despite the other males age he was not budging from his position.
“It’s fine really. I should actually get back to my place; I left a couple of things undone that need fixing. And I think you most likely have other things to get done as well am I right?” he questioned.
Jaejoong smiled sheepishly lowering his head to hide the slight trace of a blush decorating his face.
“Do you mean that because of the wedding Mr. Ohng?” he muttered with a hint of shyness.
It took all Jaejoong had to not start rambling on and on about his continuous plans for what was going to be the most important day in his life to that moment. He couldn’t help the flutter of what he could only describe as butterflies every time someone would bring up his wedding.
“I mean it because you are going to be married soon, and you still need to get ready to move to a different city, boy.” Replied the older man with an apparent grin on his face as he patted Jaejoong on the back. “Now I’ll get going then.”
“Oh yeah about the furniture…the people who’ll be coming in…they still want it right?”
“Yes they do, but I’ll come back later on so we can check what it is that you will be leaving here. I’m sad to see you go but I’m glad that everything is working out for you Jaejoongshi.”
Jaejoong could only muster up a thank you and bid the man farewell before locking his door. He leaned back against it with a bright smile plastered on his face. Mr. Ohng had been right, everything was working out for him…just perfectly.

“Wake UP!”
Kibum opened his eyes immediately at the loud screech of what he could only identify as Jaejoongs voice. Nobody else could be able to reach such a high note as his hyung could.
“Wha? Whas goin on?” he asked groggily as he blinked trying to accustom his eyes to the brightness of the room.
“What the hell were you up to last night? Honestly Kibum it’s two in the afternoon!”
Jaejoong finished opening the curtains and made his way back to sit in the corner of his dongsaengs bed, who was apparently enough awake to take notice of his hyungs presence…in his room.
“How’d you get in here hyung? Asked Kibum yawning as he stretched his stiff muscles.
The other only looked at him and rolled his eyes as he jingled a pair of keys on his hand. “I do have a copy of your house keys as you so kindly forced me to take them the other day.”
“Oh I gave you those?” asked Kibum rubbing his eyes.
“No I just took you’re key and made a copy of it without letting you know. No actually you know what I picked your lock because I am just so good at that.”
“Really hyung?”
All Kibum could feel was the thump on his head as Jaejoong whacked him with an incredulous look.
“I was just kidding hyung.” He pouted. “It’s still too early for you to start bullying me.” He continued on as he rubbed his head.
“Well if you’re doing with your lame jokes I actually have some news to share with you.” Said Jaejoong crossing his arms.
“What news is so important that you actually made use of the key I gave you?”
“My apartment has been sold to someone else.” He replied with a pleased smile.
“You’re homeless already Jae?” mocked his dongsaeng.
“Ki-”
“I’m kidding” grinned Kibum lazily sticking his tongue out at the older one.
“You better be,” Jaejoong couldn’t help but mumble.
“So when are you moving in with me roomie?”
“Ugh did you know this is the only part of the plan that I did not like?” questioned Jaejoong with an annoyed look.
“What!!! You don’t wanna be roomies hyung??”
“Kidding.” Jaejoong replied as he slapped the other on the back.
“Hahaha” Kibum mocked sarcastically “Now stop with the hitting me thing. So then when do you want to move your things in here?”
“Today? I know my landlord told me that I had time, but I don’t want to take advantage.”
“You never do Jae. Come on then.” Stated Kibum as he got up, grabbing Jaejoong and pulling him up from the bed. “Let’s get your things today, I’m just gonna get ready and then have sum breakfast and after that I’m at your service hyung.” He finished with a wink which made Jaejoong just shake his head.
“I don’t think eating at this time qualifies as breakfast but whatever works with you is fine.” Jaejoong said as they both walked out into the living room. It was gonna be a very long day.
And sure enough by the time they had managed to move everything from Jaejoong’s house to Kibum’s it was dark outside and both men were completely exhausted laying down in Kibum’s living room floor at the end.
The day had been a long one but according to Jaejoong a lot had been accomplished with the help of his dongsaeng and now the only thing that was left inside his apartment were things that his landlord would probably keep.
“Hyung I’m never helping you move again.” Replied Kibum whining as he shifted on the floor, the movement obviously putting pressure on some of the bruises he had garnered during the day.
Jaejoong turned to look at him with a wide smile. “You’re the one that was so excited about getting the job done dongsaeng.” He couldn’t help but tease.
“I clearly forgot that I had sensitive skin. Look at me hyung apart from all the bruises, my skins gonna be peeling off in a couple of days.” He pouted.
“It’s not my fault you get sunburned even when the sun isn’t out.” Replied Jaejoong.
“You know I would throw a cushion at you hyung, but I can’t seem to move at the moment so you should consider yourself lucky.”
“Ha! As if! You know what Ki since you obviously can’t move at the moment how about you just camp out here on the living room and I just take your bed?” offered Jaejoong all the while sneaking up as Kibum had his back to him and making his way to the bed, making sure he made no noise.
“You can’t take the bed. I didn’t offer it to you!” replied Kibum oblivious to the fact that Jaejoong was gone.
He heard a thump and looked around startled but careful to not hurt his already sore neck only to see a pile of blankets and a pillow.
“Nite dongsaeng. Sleep tight!” smirked Jaejoong as he hurriedly made his way back to the room.
“What the?” Kibum propped himself on his elbows as it dawned on him how he had just been played by Jaejoong.
“Hyung! HYUNG!!” he called.
“G-nite Kibummie!” was the only answer he received.
“Hyung you’re sleeping on my bed? Dude you don’t even know what goes on in there at nite!”
He received no answer and he said the only thing he could think of.
“Jaejoong if you wanna wake up clean at least change the bedsheets!!”
“You’re disgusting!” was the response he got as he looked up to see Jaejoong standing at the doorway wearing a very grossed out expression. “I changed my mind, I’m taking the couch.”
It was later on as Jaejoong layed there on the floor that he couldn’t help but go over all the events that had led to where he was. And he couldn’t help but feel pleased at everything he had achieved even if his body was protesting against all the work out he had gotten during the day.
Kibum had taken the bedroom even though he had assured Jaejoong multiple times that he had been joking, and still he didn’t want to take a chance and sleep in something that would probably leave him scarred for life.
Everything was going the way he wanted it to. He tossed and turned trying to find a more comfortable position in the hard couch. And yet although sleep kept threatening to overtake him he did not allow for his eyes to shut as he waited for Yunho’s daily night call. Jaejoong peered over to his cell phone to see if it was still where he had placed it on the coffee table, he was getting a little exasperated as he waited. He wanted to tell Yunho all about what had happened. And as he laid there he could feel darkness starting to overtake him. Darkness that he tried to battle in efforts to wait for a call that never came.
***
They were going through the same process that they had gone through multiple times before.
The crying. The hugging. And the assurance that everything would be okay.
Except this time Yunho wasn’t so sure that everything would be okay.
He had mentally tried to prepare himself for what was to come but he couldn’t help but doubt his decision when the constant pain in his heart wouldn’t let him forget just what he was letting go of.
The question was, was he really going to be able to let go?
He couldn’t help but throw a last glance at his family before driving around the curb of his street that showed them from his view no more.
He had just said goodbye to them and yet he couldn’t stop the feeling of nostalgia from sweeping through his body. His family, his mother, siblings, father, grandparents, all the people that he had grown up with. He loved them. They were a part of him, but what about Jaejoong…the other man had taken over his whole heart and without him he wasn’t so sure he would be able to function properly once more.
He would miss them while he was away. He would miss the people that had loved him since he was a child. And yet he couldn’t help the small painful smile that etched on his lips as he thought of seeing his lover soon enough.
It was ironic how something that used to bring him so much joy now filled his heart with a sense of melancholy.
The times when he had anticipated going to Busan to visit his lover now he dreaded. Because when he stepped foot in Busan he would have the knowledge that he was so far away from his family And yet being in Seoul was a painful without his fiancé by his side.
As he drove himself into the entrance of the airport he remembered his mother’s tears as she had hugged her baby boy good bye. His father’s stern glare and his brother’s apologetic and worried glances. He had taken the courage necessary from them and yet even Yoochun’s wish of good luck had done nothing to really help him…
Right now all he had to do was focus on the present. And as his grandmother had always told him live each day as his last. And as he boarded the plane that left to Busan, that was the only thing going through his mind.
He had made up his mind, but the choice he had taken brought upon him more pain than he had imagined.
All through his flight he had tried to make the gnawing in his heart feel better at the thought of surprising his lover with his presence. By the time he had arrived to Busan it was midday and with no hotel reservation he had made his way to Jaejoong’s apartment hoping to gain back some of the sanity he had been clearly losing with the stress everything had caused him.
Just as he was making his way out of the airport he couldn’t help but remember that he had forgotten to call Jaejoong the night before and therefore took out his phone to make a quick call while he waited for a cab driver to show up so he could head to his destination.
He was supposed to arrive at least a couple of hours later and head straight over to Kibum’s house for dinner but right now that didn’t feel like the best thing at the moment. Jaejoong and him had to talk. Yunho had to tell him everything that was going on. He couldn’t keep this from him, they had promised each other to be honest since the beginning and so he would keep that promise to his lover.
All he wanted was to go to Jaejoong and lay in bed with the other and hold him tight. He wanted to hug Jaejoong as tight as he could and desperately cling on to him and ask his lover to make him feel once more.
Because at that moment he was scared that when the pain would go away he there would be nothing left. And all he wanted was to feel something other than hurt.
By the third ring the phone had been picked up but it had not been Jaejoong who had answered but Kibum who had let him know that Jaejoong was at his home. So he reluctantly made his way over to his dongsaengs house hoping that everything would end fast enough and he would be able to once more find shelter in his lover’s arms.
The last thing he had expected though was to open the door to Kibums house and be greeted by the loud shouts of “Surprise!”
To say that he actually was surprised was an understatement.
There gathered in Kibums small livingroom where many people he knew from the company as well as Siwon who he could see standing next to Kibum and then there he was, the person that Yunho had looked forward to seeing for the longest time…Jaejoong.
It was funny and cliché how people would always say that your eyes would be drawn to that person once you knew they were the one. And yet right there Yunho knew that if he hadn’t met Jaejoong before, the latter would still be the only one in his no matter where he saw him.
He tore his eyes away from his lover only to be shocked to see so many people there but he smiled halfheartedly. He hadn’t been in the exact mood to deal with his dongsaeng yet and now to have to deal with at least a dozen people was something that he was just not ready for.
“Yunho!” was all he heard before he was enveloped in a tight embrace of familiar arms. Jaejoong only pulled apart to look up at Yunho’s face and when he did he was wearing a smile that made Yunho momentarily forget just why he had been feeling like crap all day.
“I missed you.” Jaejoong managed to breathe out as he nuzzled himself on to Yunhos’ chest. All Yunho could do was tighten his hold on to Jaejoong’s body as he placed a kiss on the other’s hair.
“What’s this all about?” he managed to ask everyone just as Kibum and Siwon had made their way to him to greet him.
“It’s your engagement party Jung.” Replied Siwon as he threw an arm around Yunho, once the latter had let go of his lover, to congratulate him.
“What?” he asked stiffly at the unexpected information all he could do was turn to face Jaejoong confused. “What does he mean Jae?”
“It’s our engagement party! Well actually I wanted to tell you but Kibum convinced me to make it a surprise.” Jaejoong smiled once more but seeing the grim expression on Yunhos face he instantly became worried. “What’s wrong Yunho, are you mad? I thought you would like it…”
“No,” he replied hastily as he saw Jaejoong’s enthusiasm dropping. “No it’s just I’m tired that’s all. Here I was wanting to surprise you and I’m the one who got the surprise.”
“But you like it right hyung?” intervened Kibum.
“Yeah I do…I just do….” Replied Yunho as he pulled Jaejoong to his arms to kiss his cheek.
“I love you Jaejoong, I love you so damn much.” he whispered to the other’s ears and just by holding him it was as if he could feel the other’s smile gracing him and making him feel once more.
