I have been having a hard week - finding that you have a new story has brightened it up considerably!

A sombre but fascinating first chapter, I look forward to the rest.

I'm glad you liked this so far -- I'm afraid it gets even sombrer, if that's even a word. LOL

Ooh! That is a lovely avatar!

Thank you - I made it to go with my story Starlight Bathing.

I think this one goes rather well with yours though!!

We use turnips just like the rutabaga in your icon to make Halloween lanterns...

Rutabagas are useful vegetables. My icon is in reference to a story by Darth Fingon in which he makes Glorfindel a rutabaga farmer and Erestor blandly explains that the rutabaga is known as'the Feanorian turnip'. ROFL

This is a very intriguing start even though it is dark and somber, but I am very eager to read more.

Yes, dark and somber, because who wants to read a straightforward account of how he dug the caves? The 'human' story ended up kind of taking over, but it gave me a chance to expand on the character of Laliathiel, who has been rather a cypher up till now.

Thank you -- I hope you like the rest.

*Hugs Thranduil* :) I'm very glad to see another story from you! It appears it is going to be 'shadowed' as the title suggests, but I know I will thoroughly enjoy it.

Yup -- he's going to need a hug during the worst of this.

The title of this story is inspired by one of the translations of Mr. WeDon'tKnowWhatTheHellYourNameMeans. I personally favor 'Across the Great River', but this one sparked a bunny. All the Biblical stuff is an attempt on my part to for once have a totally Public Domain set of epigraphs for Fanfiction Net.

Thank you -- the next chapter is going up today. I hope you like it.
