Question about racism and racial sensitivity

So I was having a discussion with a coworker about something he heard Ann Coulter say on C-SPAN. The quote, as I understood it, went as such -- "If the first black president keeps going the way he is, he'll be the only black president

I don't think it odd so much as involuntary. I think the brain associates things automatically, whether we want it to or not, and I think the desire of the people to not be poor or stressed or out of work could easily manifest itself in the election of another lifetime's worth of white leaders.

Tell it to everyone who looks at me sideways when I walk in the Gap. Tell it to every waiter who decides I won't tip well enough to make it worth his while when I walk in a restaurant. Tell it to every middle-aged white lady who asked me when I was 13 if my two-year-old cousin was my son. People associate black-skinned people with a lot of things, and I'd have to hate an awful lot of people if I thought they all did it on purpose.
