Do people recognize at all that Persia is a real place? That it's still in existence under a different name full of real people that are largely not white and of whom America largely isn't a real big fan?

to the part of this that is post (and therefore, i hope, means open to discussion, and if not open to discussion then skip to the p.s.): should, then, gay characters or disabled characters in the media only be portrayed by gay actors or disabled actors? because if that were so, the amount of gay or disabled actors willing to play the limited range of gay or disabled stereotypes would quickly dwindle to few if not none... right?
we really really don't live in a post-minority culture in terms of opportunities for minorities or representations of them.
p.s. why has not i seen post from you in while, or do i just imagine i haven't seen a post? Thank you for giving me something to think/feel about this evening other than how tired i am and how much my back feels like deaaaaath.

So take Abigail Breslin in The Miracle Worker. I don't know that anyone knows how well or poorly she can affect blindness or deafness, but the complaints are that no blind or deaf actors were given the opportunity to audition. So it's one of those things where the main running assumption is automatically that "normal" people can do it best. So in the way that minority characters weren't considered to play the speaking characters in Harry Potter but for the roles that specifically call for them or in Lord of the Rings, it seems fair to consider people of Iranian descent or at least prioritize them for roles that ( ... )
