Something struck me recently when a colleague of mine with whom I'd had some issues, offered me an olive branch by asking me about a Hebrew word from a Steinbeck novel. Little did I realize that this tertiary character in my life would prompt an actual existential crisis, not by issues related to being coworkers, but my research into the word

could you explain? i'm trying to compare to the english to understand the similarity of the statements, but they seem to be saying different things in terms of who is mastering what etc.
