Jags and JMs are quite different feeling and sounding, mainly due to the fact that the Jaguar has a shorter scale - 24" - as opposed to the JM's 25.5" (same a Strat, Tele etc). Jags can be ideal for those with smaller hands, but can feel cramped to those with sausage fingers

geez dude, you should of just said "I'm an indie rocker and I don't want to play a trendy-ass telecaster like the rest of the skinny 26 yr old grad. student dudes."
I've owned both (62 r.i. jag & jazz), I sold the jag quickly as it was a piece of crap. I could have done some work to it, but it really wasn't worth it. I love my jazzmaster, I never plan on getting rid of it. I did have to replace the bridge with a mustang bridge (A MUST IF YOU BUY EITHER OF THESE). play them, play them hard and see what happens to the strings.
